Today's sound of cd's and future Beatle remasters.

No question the project is long overdue.While other well known artists like the Stones and The Moody Blues have had their albums remastered and re-released in different new formats we Beatle fans must live on cd's that came out at the begining of the cd technology. Technology has come a long way since, and you notice the diference when listening to the Capitol album sets. However while I think that the sound on an compilation like 1 is excelent, there are those who don't think it is and EMI might not be able to please everyone afterall, even if the Beatles remasters finally see the light of day.

Problem is the loudness war that's curently going on, when every new cd release must sound as loud as posible taking away the task of the volume button on our stereo set. Sure you hear everything better, I didn't hear that guitar on the original release, some will say. No wonder when everything is been mixed up as loud as posible without any nuances, without keeping the difference between the loud parts and the soft parts of a song.
Unfortunately the way music is going to be distributed is through downloads with Itunes leading the way, thus the music will be compressed even furture.

And all because of convenience. Every new format takes less space in your house, is easier to access and easier to take with you while traveling Music has become smaller and smaller and the sound worse and worse. While the technology has gotten better, at this moment it's not used in the right way. So while we have waited forever to get new Beatle cd's, it's questionable wheter they really will sound that great. Tho it's hard to imagine how they can sound worse then the current U.K. catalogue on cd, if Apple/EMI goes along with the current loudnes war where the louder means the better, it's just a matter of choosing the less of the two evils instead of finally having great sounding Beatle albums. Ofcourse everyone is going to say how good these cd's sound, while selling their old Beatle cd's. And I admit I sold one of them already, "Magical Mystery Tour". I just had listened to my German vinyl copy of that album which sound has just blown me away, and I just couldn't listen to the U.K. cd anymore. Anyway a few years after most of us have sold their old cd's, people will say that the sound of the new versions is crap, much like they think "1" is crap and I think the sound of "Let it be...naked" and even the new Traveling Wilbury cd's is crap, and that the old cd's sound much better.

Unless we are going to take time again to listen to music, instead of listening to it while travling and in loud enviroments where indeed the louder is the better, nothing is going to change. I see it as enjoying a good meal. I like to take time while having dinner, and get a good an balanced meal. Sure you can save yourself time, and have some vitamine pills while traveling, but you don't get everything you need in and it takes out the enjoyment.
