very early tomorrow morning a couple friends and I are heading to Cleveland to The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And Museum. While my friends are more interested in any and all things rock related, you can 'Imagine' that my main interest is in the Lennon exhibit

I won't be able to make my report 'til no earlier than Monday, but I was wondering what the rest of you who've seen the exhibit have thought (I couldn't find any posts on the exhibit; sorry for starting a new topic if I overlooked any current one)

Have a safe trip and a good time, beatlejes! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wave2.gif Wish I could go too; Susan brought me a book from her trip to Cleveland, but it's not the same as being there in person.

I wish I lived in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it is AWESOME. I could stay there for hours and not get bored! The Lennon stuff is amazing and at times, sad.

The COOLEST part of the Lennon exhibit was being a foot away from his actual Sgt. Pepper jacket! Scotty and I stared in awe at it for ten minutes straight.

Were you there right when it opened in the morning? I was, maybe you saw me there. That would be kinda weird. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and if anyone has even a slight chance to go they should. Make sure you check out the little round room at the top. It's really neat.

lol 10 mins? I topped you then, my mom said I stood infront of that jackett for 20 mins straight, drooling, and almost look like I was going to take off the plastic and put it on, LOL
he's such a small man! I also love his black kimono (sp?) along with yokos, hehe we all know what happened when they wore those, lol
and it looked like he did wear Jewerly, like necklaces and things, but no rings, he never wore a ring in his life

man I love him!!

I cried the hardest when I saw them glasses and the paper bag, I almost puked too and I also waited by the white phone for a good 10 mins to see if yoko would call me, ROFL

Almost touched his bed, the one with church pews, but decided not to being there's a special chemical on there to make it last forever...

I only wish John could have physically lasted forever...I miss him

I love you John

I guess there were 2 of them though, which would equate to 20 mins. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Actually, MaccaTwst, he did wear a wedding ring at the very least. I have Rolling Stone's tribute issue, and in it there's a close-up of John's face. He's holding up the collar of his leather jacket, and you can clearly see his wedding ring. It's a great picture; someday I should scan it and ask Jerry if I can use it.

And yeah, I love and miss John too... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/sad.gif

I convinced my friend to drive up to Cleveland with me in July (that's a long way from Alabama!)- but it was well worth the trip to me. I loved seeing the drawings John did as a child and trying to read the teacher's comments on his report cards. They were also having an exhibition on Stuart Sutcliffe at the time, which I found very interesting.

nope, didn't get there til about 11:30AM (slept in at the hotel; that's a long drive from Iowa).

I totally dug the Lennon exhibit. Actually seeing items John actually owned and used and wore meant more to me than I thought it would. I'd catch myself staring at items like the coat John wore on the 'Our World'/ "All You Need Is Love" session or the 'Bed Peace' and 'Hair Peace' signs. And I'm not into art, but John's drawings and collages seemed special as I'd look at them.

What touched me the most was John's handwritten lyrics. It's his songs that are his biggest legacy, and to see these creations in his own writing was really cool. I read somewhere that the copies on exhibit were probably not the absolute earliest forms of those lyrics, as they're all mostly complete and so must have been re-writings for John's use in recording (he was supposedly always forgetting the words during recording), but to see them as from John's hand and mind was really special. It was also cool to note the reactions of others visiting the exhibit and reacting to John's lyrics and the explanations about the writing of the songs.

Of course, the display of John's glasses and belongings at the time of his death was very moving. It was also a little sickening to see others looking in at the glasses and then recoiling at realizing what they were looking at. Although that display was the most powerful, it was also my least favorite part of the exhibit.

The rest of the museum was really cool, and my friends and I had a blast touring it (although one friend was upset that his favorite band Foghat wasn't represented at all in the museum while N'sync was once and The Bangles twice). There was a 'Battle Of The Corporate Bands' going on that day (the first band we heard played a few Beatles songs; the band who played "Hotel California" rocked). We spent way too much money at the museum shop (I bought the book of the Lennon exhibit, a poster of the exhibit, and a Rock Hall paperweight). It was cool that the shop was playing the Gimme Some Truth video on its monitors. Overall, we had a great day, and I HIGHLY recommend the Rock Hall to all lovers of rock music, lovers of The Beatles, and lovers of music in general
