View Full Version : Maybe John was right...

Tim
Sep 08, 2001, 10:57 AM
This past week the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster sy=tated that Christianity had been all but vanquished in the UK.
It brings to mind John's quote that "Christianity will go. it will vanish and shrink."

Well, that's too bad. Now all of their lovely and humongous churches are of no use.

Well I'm catholic and of course that hurts... But the main thing about John stating something that was clearly viewed by the rest of the world is really something worth noting.

I went to a Catholic church too, until I was about 10 or 11. Did you make your First Communion, Boris?

I have never doubted that John was right. But he wasn't the first to say it. Jesus said, "At that time many will turn away from the faith..."

John did not say that he was greater than, or more important that Jesus........

I don't think that Christianity as an organized religion is a good thing. I believe that Christianity as a belief and a way of life is good. Religion has been, and still is, a cause of a lot of conflict in the world. That's not what God wanted it to be. I know a lot of people who have turned away from God and Jesus because of the corruption of the church and thats a very sad thing. We need to renounce Christianity and embrace Christ. Until people realize this there are always going to be religious problems.

I have...I mean yeah Christianity will not always be as popular as it once was or heaps of people might turn away from it but it will never actually VANISH. There will still be some die-hard Christians out there for all of time. It is too big - and such an important way of life - to just go.
What I agree with was what he said about The Beatles being more important to young people than Jeseus at the time he said that. That is true. I mean you didn't see hysterical teens at churches around the country or anything like that too often.

I agree, Luce. Same goes with any other religious group... and unfortunately any other 'fanatical' type group.

Many are leaving organized religions today because many of the churches do not reflect the teaching of Christ. However, I agree, the true teachings of Christ will endure.

Old Moon Shining put it best that the teachings of Christ will endure.

My very wise, very loved and very astute uncle used to say that how people treat others is a good measure of their core values and beliefs. He was a firm believer in treating people as kindly as possible. I think that was why he was my favorite of all my uncles.

Then we will remember things we said today. Yeah.

John was right!!!! But the Bishop doesn't
get an ear full about what he said though
does he!!!! I bet if John was alive now
he would be laughing and satisfied that
people did understand what he was saying!!!
I think in all fairness the Bishop should
get an ear full for his remarks!!!!

I am indeed, most of my family is Serbian Orthodox. Though on my dad's side a lot of the family is Catholic, and I did go to a Catholic school for 7 years, so I guess I'm a little bit of both... but when it comes to Easter, Christmas, etc... we always go to the Orthodox church. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
