Has anybody ever noticed that the opening and closing of "Oh My Love" was nearly a duplicate of the opening and closing of "Man We Was Lonely"? they're almost the same thing.

I had noticed that... But I don't think he's a "copycat". Since neither him nor Paul could read music, their making of chords was just "casual"... it's like picking things from a dark bag without looking at it... most times you'll get original, different things... but then there's also the chance of two people picking the same thing. (Hope you got the meaning of that analogy anyway).
By the way, the opening chords on "I've Got A Feeling" are very similar to the opening chords to "Wah-Wah"... just like "I'm The Greatest" (as FPSHOT stated before) features the classic "I Dig Love" riff.
It's totally unintentional, I think. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I agree, Darkhorse. And I also don't believe that George ripped off He's So Fine for the same reasons.

I didn't really mean "copycat" I was just looking for a word to grab the attention of a reader. Maybe it was a part of a song they had written together and scrapped, and both recalled it for their own use.

Just as it sounds like the Who copied the middle riff of How Do You Sleep? in You better you bet.

It happens all the time it's just much more attention grabbing in this case because it isn't two completely unrelated artists it's two closely related artists.

While on the subject, I've always wondered: How did the Ruttles get away with copying so many Beatle songs ?
I know, they changed all the lyrics but "Get back"-"Get up and go", "Dear prudence"-"Let's be natural" and so on, musicaly they're practicaly the same.

My guess is they got permission. I doubt they would have had any trouble doing so. And also there's a sort of catch where if you change the song just enough you don't have to get permission to use the song because it isn't the same as the original piece.

Never realized that before...and if you play the chord slow you can hear part of the the opening-chord of Beware of Darkness.
It's mainly playing around with the simple E chord on the bass strings. The basic is the same on these three songs.

To be more close, a combination of E and Em.

Wasn't George involved or something?

George did have a cameo appearance in the movie All You Need Is Cash. He played the part of an interviewer.

Well that's probably how they got permission, then. Does Michael Pedophile Jackson still own the rights to Beatles songs??

There is a story about the Rutles somewhere, I will dig that up, but in anyway I thought George was involved through his friendship with Eric Idle.

The Rutles did so in that you are allowed to do so in the case of a parody which this is. That was proven when 2 Live Crew won a plagarism lawsuit over Banned In The U.S.A.,a parody of Born In The U.S.A.
