Does anyone have this? Is it absolutely positively worth every penny of the near 100 bucks I'll have to spend or would I be better off just buying all of his albums?

I would say that it's absolutely worth the money. But mine only cost around $60. So maybe you can find it this chep as well. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/teeth1.gif

This week, the Beatles greatest hits album, 1, is at number seventy on the USA album charts. Wingspan: Hits and History by Paul McCartney is at number fifty-one.

I think it's worth it, HeyBeatle. It has outtakes and live versions; IMO, the outtakes from "Walls and Bridges" (on Disc 3) are better than the released ones (or more intimate, anyway). There's also comic songs (like satires of Bob Dylan) and snippets of banter during recording sessions. Still, are you sure you can't get it for under $100? If there's a Best Buy near you, you should be able to get it for about $60. Maybe you can find it for cheaper online.
Best,

Oh Yes! Definitely worth the money. It has stuff on there that wasn't originally first aired on bootlegs. Plus, the sound is great. I love the Lennon Anthology...shows him at all sides (humorous, loving, angry, etc. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I'm pretty sure that I can get it at CDepot for 40 some dollars. I had checked Best Buy and they didn't have it and the only other place I found it at was Waves music and the thing cost 99 dollars there. Thanks for all of your opinions, even though those anthologyies are usually worth the money and of course I'd love anything Lennon, it's a lot of money to put out for one thing.

The only big collection boxes I've seen that are cooler than the Lennon box are the Aerosmith collection, the Doors collection (well one of them), and that Beatles collection that has all of the Beatles albums plus past masters 1& 2. That has a nice fancy wooden bread bin (atleast that's what it looks like.

It's amazing. I payed near $35,000 for it... Chilean "pesos", that is. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif But it's amazing. I agree sometimes the versions of the "Walls And Bridges" tracks are better than the released ones... Plus I love John's guide vocals to Ringo ("I'm The Greatest", "Goodnight Vienna", "Only You") and the extraordinary version of "Grow Old With Me" with George Martin's arrangement. Definitely worth the money. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

But those recordings in "his" voice were quite a rarity (and please don't mention bootlegs this time http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif), since they weren't officialy released before this little box came out. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif
Plus they are highlights of the "Anthology".

it's a great box set. only 50 bucks on my site. (www.theflamingpie.com (http://members.aol.com/theflamingpie/), go to the lennon page) it's well worth it, some great versions of clasic lennon songs and unreleased songs too. Definately worth it!

With all of your postive opinions on the Lennon Anthology I'm just itching to get my next paycheck so I can go out and get the thing. I want to hear all the songs you all are praising so much.

Oh I love it. I had only heard some bootlegs recordings of songs like To know her is to love her and The Hippy Hippy Shake (I bought some CD called last night in Hamburg) and they were really poor quality. Anyway the Live at the Beeb recordings are really cool cause they're much better quality and I love hearing all of the cover songs they have on it. Plus the talking parts are kinda funny too. I am VERY happy I bought it. I love early rock n' roll and this has helped me find out about more 50's/early 60's artists.

I believe that some of his regular album recordings make me cry.
Speaking of Wonsaponatime I saw that at CDepot a few weeks ago and I almost bought it but I didn't have the money I had to chose between that or Live at the BBC so I bought Live at the BBC.

I had heard about this album when it came out in 95 but I never bought it cause I was in the process of getting the albums they released while the band was together. I was so thrilled when they decided to re-release cause I hadn't seen a copy of it since 98 at the latest.
