I'v heard that in 1968 the rolling stones taped a t.v. special that never got released (cause the stones thought their performance sucked) called "Rock' n' Roll Circus". In it are performances by John Lennon, eric clapton, the stones, the who, etc... Does any body know if this has been released to t.v. or video? Where can one view this?

It was released somewhere... I've seen the video to "Sympathy For The Devil" on MTV, and it features John and Yoko dancing and screaming to the tune... And I've also heard the song "Yer Blues" performed by John, Keith Richards and some other members of the Rolling Stones... Try ebay, maybe, I don't know...

It was released on video, according to the box, in 1995. I've got the tape on my desk as I type. Fabulous stuff -- Jethro Tull, The Who, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithful, John and Yoko and the Stones! It never saw the light of day (except for the brief clip of the Who performing "A Quick One," which appeared in their film "The Kids Are Alright" in 1979) because the Stones didn't like THEIR performances...
You might be able to find a copy someplace -- try used video stores or E-bay or something. BTW, here's a cool aside -- a friend of mine from London was actually IN THE AUDIENCE along with his older brother when the film was made -- he was 17, and got everyone's autographs...I've seen them, too. John and Yoko, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Mick Jagger...I think he even got Brian Jones' autograph!! I was so jealous when he told me!!
Good luck finding it, Ward.

I found the video at Frontstage.com at a price of about $17.
I have bought at Frontstage and it is very reliable and quick in delivery.

About six years ago they had the Rolling Stones "Rock 'n' Roll Circus" on VH-1. I remember seeing commercials for it but never thought about taping it. They had specials on John Lennon, Paul McCartney and the Beatles. My dad had taped "The Hours and Times" (I actually didn't know that this was a 'movie' until later on--I thought it was real because since it took place in 1963I was thinking it was old footage or something because it was in black and white!--How dumb can you be!) Anyway, my dad also taped some half-hour specials about the Beatles Anthology and the "One to One" 1972 concert with John, Yoko and Elephant's Memory. The bad thing about all of this is that everything had commericials and bits and peices of the shows were cut out. You can guess why some Yoko songs and "Woman is the Nigger of the World was cut out." Not only because of commercial time. I told my dad to stop recording after the concert. Right after John and Yoko's 1972 concert was the Rock 'n' Roll Circus! I didn't tape it because I didn't know John was in it or anyone else, just the Rolling Stones. I like the Rolling Stones, but it didn't look interesting to me. I'm still kicking myself today for not taping it because I haven't seen it on video or VH-1 since! Do'h!

It is a good video, with Yer Blues by the Dirty Mac(John and various Stones and Who memebers).
They shoulda just aired it-the Stones segment was great as was the Who.

Rock and Roll Circus is among the best ever films made during that amazing period of British rock. John's performance with The Dirty Mac is wonderful and it's really fun to see him dancing to The Rolling Stones! Because it was filmed instead of taped, the video is very clear and all the performances are shot quite close up, as though you are in the first few rows of a concert.
If you want to buy the video, I have a direct link to it on my website (along with some other sometimes hard-to-find stuff):
