Even when he was at home, he was uncomfortable with his own son, and was definitely NOT a good father to him. He certianly didn't WANT to be a father when Cyn got pregnant, but he did the right thing by her and married her, even though they were both kids and he would much rather have been off, footloose and fancy-free like his brother Beatles.

Maybe when you are a little bit older and have to consider all the realities and pressures of parenthood, you will have a better understanding of all the reasons John was a lousy father to Julian and a far better one to Sean.

You're right, Susan. Not only was John a lousy father to Julian, he was the first to admit it. He felt badly about it and tried to make it up to Julian when he was a bit older, but when Sean came along, our John was determined NOT to repeat the mistakes he made with Julian.
What happened to Julian was exactly what happened to John himself--each of them lost a parent twice; first in childhood, then again and permanently in their teen years.
John and Julian were in the process of getting to know one another at last when John was killed.
Now, let's get this thread back on topic, shall we?

I threw a lot of "older John" pics in there because, despite some things I've said about him being so skinny and all, I still think he was one gorgeous 40 year old, and these pics prove it.

*about the "lousy father" bit: Susan and Angel are right. However, as much as I hate hypothetical thinking, I know with every morsel in me that if John hadn't died, he would have made it up to Julian and they'd be probably be playing cards, or golf (or whatever leisure things Julian does these days...yachting?) at the Dakota/Spain/Italy/enter place this very moment.
And this is from one of the most cynical people you'll ever know. The biggest tragedy of the John-Julian relationship is, well, that tragedy.

'Nuff said! I'ma look for some more post-1977 pics of Johnny. He was looking fine.

Sometimes when a server for a site that hosts pictures is too busy, you can't see the pictures here. That's probably what's going on. Keep checking back, and the pictures will return eventually.

Its the banner poster that can be purchased at popart.com, if you can afford it!!! The best photo of John you will ever see. I'd put it on the forum but I've got no idea how to attach a photo. Good Dog Nigel is a FANTASTIC choice for a username! Do you know, when I first read that poem I laughed so hard that I literally wasn't able to catch my breath!!! A friend of mine (a HUGE dog lover) thinks it's the meanest poem ever written, but I just LOVE it! *sigh* John was the best. ('I Sat Belonely' is definitely my favorite of his poems...)

These pics are by a man named Bill Carlson, a photographer who was at a press conference by the Beatles in Minneapolis in 1965.

You can order the pics (and lots of others!!! I am looking through these pictures, I am so relaxed and my mind has gone away. I cannot think about anything except John in the 1964ish era. I am getting to excited, I just want to get up and squeal. I feel like I do not have enough oxygen and I am getting light headed. I feel way too relax to even type this, I feel like I am going to fall asleep. And every time I think of John there is this huge energy of excitement that runs through my blood stream! I don't know what it is but I love it and I want more! LOL. It's amazing what kind of things John does to you! While reading A Twist of Lennon, just the mention of John makes me want to go wild right now... *sighs* But I am at school. Ok, I could rant on but I will stop here.

I LOVE THE BEATLES SO MUCH AND JOHN AND THE REST OF THEM MEAN SO MUCH TO ME THAT IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY!!!
