View Full Version : Why Do You Love John?

I'm sure this will be an easy question to answer.

John was so amazing. He had talent from art, to music to poetry. He had the best personality and wasn't too bad looking either http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I wouldn't go as far as saying I loved him personally, but his voice... oooooh baabbbyyy. Makes the butter on my toast melt.

John was an excellent vocalist. His to how his voice ALWAYS matches the mood or sentiments of a song.

Ohhh, man, there's so to say about why I love John! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif His voice is the most beautiful voice I've ever heard and I agree with someone who said 'it matches the mood.' I love learning about his life, he had such an interesting life. And he's the most beautiful, sexy man I've ever seen! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I could go on...but I'll stop here. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

John was just great. As a human, a husband, a father, a friend, and an idol, he was great at all of these things.

This week, the Beatles' greatest hits album, "1", is at number twenty-six on the USA album charts.

I love his lyrics the best. I think his way of telling the truth, sometimes directly, stuck into your face (like in "Plastic Ono Band" or "Sometimes In NYC") or sometimes hidden into surrealistic images (like in 1967) or poetic fantasies ("Julia", "#9 Dream")... He's the real rock'n'roll poet, and just a great lyricist. He did also a great job being a vocalist, but I think the best about him are his lyrics.

And also, he was an underrated guitarist. The solos in "You Can't Do That" and "Get Back" are impressive... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

John was definitely a good lyricist. I can relate my life to several of his songs, either with the Beatles or as a solo artist. His vocal talents were at times surreal and mythical. His cutting humor was almost always borderline. No matter what anybody says about him, I'll always remember him as the man behind the Beatles.

John may not have done eveything the way I would have....but he took his circumstances and grew....he inspired himself, his friends and the rest of us. He was strong. And very smart...I say that because he was not willing to accept things just because he was told it was so. He had to understand. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/lightbulb.gif
His voice was amazing....but that's true of a lot of people...the thing that set him apart was how he learned to use it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/yeah.gif
John was just great. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Why do I love John? Because his songs reach out to all of us, at some point or another in our lives. Because his views on things changed, and he wasn't afraid to let others know that by the very act of writing and recording those changes. Because he felt deeply... and took the time to not only express those feelings, but to explore them as well. Because, while definitely masculine, his reactions to his inner self (indeed, his whole viewpoint of exploring his inner self) were more feminine than most men would admit to being, and John plastered his explorations all over the radio all over the world, without apology.

Wow...so many reasons. John was brilliant, and not just as a musician, either. I've always thought that intelligence rated very high on the attractiveness scale, right up there with physical appearance. Of course, John wasn't too bad to look at either! (YEAH, baby!) He had a luscious voice (I love that "makes the butter on my toast melt," Nowhere Man...ooh, what a description!) and a brilliant mind, all wrapped up in a very sexy package...and I also think he was a heck of a decent guy. He had his faults, but always, always there was a good person beneath the sometimes prickly exterior! His very complexity made him wonderful!

John..... ooooooh JOHN! Love him to pieces! He was so beautiful. Everything about him was so sexy http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/drool.gif
His lyrics are always very touching, because you know how personal they were for him. His attitude of just not giving a flip has always been very attractive to me. He had his own mind, and a very intelligent one at that! Soooo witty! I just love that about him! Being funny just came so naturally for him, none of that forced humor with him.

I ofcourse love John's music and his lyrics. And yes he has a great voice.
I love John's honesty, he was probaly the only one who could say to Paul "That's crap" when Paul wrote another "Maxwell's silver hammer". And it's also evident in his lyrics, they are always about personal things, and about what he believe in.Some are a bit harsh to take, like "Cold Turkey" but always plain honest, except maybe from some songs in the begining. I like his wit also.

I think he learned from mistakes he made and grew to become a good father for Sean, avoiding the mistakes he made with Julian, but no-one's perfect.

Greetings,

Richard

I agree, Richard... I believe John had a positive influence on Paul's writing. Of course, it took him a looooot longer to influence Yoko's writing style, but then Yoko was a stronger personality than Paul, I think. At least, she was more gung-ho for pushing her own style over making that style more commercially viable.

I'd also have to say that John picked partners who were capable of checking his meandering leanings, as well. The collaborative efforts with Paul in the Beatles bear this out, and I think the songs John wrote and recorded during his 5-yr hiatus support my theory that Yoko actually contributed to his songs as well.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

My eyes got all misted up tonight. "John Lennon's Last Years," a retrospective of John's later years was featured on VH-1. I can never watch that last part (I think you know the part I mean) dry eyed. It's very embarrassing. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cry1.gif

What makes John's last day even more poignant was when Officer Moran, the officer who drove John to emergency asked him, "Are you John Lennon?" and John replied, "yeah." The wonderful word that became a Beatles' trademark was John's last word. The poignant irony of it all really gets to me. John's music during that period was also a painful irony in light of what took place in December, 1980. (I just can't bring myself to even say it, it's too hard). I still can't watch anything about that dry eyed.

That always makes me very misty eyed.

Friend,

You sure won't get any argument from me! I think you put it very well indeed.

John Lennon was always a spokes person and I think everyone here would agree. I remember "If I Fell" was the very first song that I thought was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. (that's kind of embarrassing, but I figured the folks here would be able to relate to that). I was a late talker and an early reader, so I often used the Beatles as my mouthpieces when I was growing up. (still do sometimes).

The very first song I ever taught myself how to play was "From Me to You." "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You," "Things We Said Today" and part of "She Loves You" came next. John was undoubtedly a genius, a right brained learner. (I read this book about right brained learning and John clearly fit the classic profile). Highly creative and imaginative, John demonstrated a flair for natural expression from an early age.

I think I'll sum this up by saying that I agree with every hearty endorsement presented here on John Lennon.

Aaaaaanyway, so let me tell you another reason why I love John so very much ..... he was just so sexy, and he didn't even know it! You know those kinds of people? To some, he wasn't obviously good looking, like Paul was, but that's what made him so hot ..... the whole not knowing it factor http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Couldn't agree more! I absolutely LOVED that cool way John stood on stage during their early performances...let's just say John was a real turn on! John had a natural charm and his brilliance and his gift for natural expression were a large part of his appeal. John was also very funny. Love that Lennon!

Which period did you think john was looking his best?(I'll say 1966) And if john and paul happened to be just two regular guys walking down the street which would you pick then?
I truley believe that had john been wearing his beef stroganoff, he would be with us today.

Yeah, I'll have to agree on that time span for John. I think 1965-1966, during Help! he looked unbelievable! If I saw both of them walking down the street, which would I go for? Hmmmm....... can I say both of them?? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif Nooooo, really, I d have to go for John. It was just that wonderful appealing way he had about him ..... drives me bonkers! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I agree with you and Jami! John had a rather earthy sex appeal whereas Paul had a very genteel sex appeal (and still does). In psychological parlance, John was the ID, the unchecked desires allowed to run free and natural and Paul was the Superego who kept things in check (in a nice way). I mean, the Beatles can be applied to just about anything!

1964 - 1965 aaaaah.......

I guess that means George and Ringo were the real Egos in the Beatles, doesn't it? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink1.gif

Personally, I've always liked John's jaw. He had a strong jawline, I think. I could stare at his face for hours... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/drool.gif

Yeah, I guess you could call George and Ringo the Ego of the group. In Freudian parlance, John was without a doubt the Id and Paul the Superego.

Gestalt means the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Gestaltism does not apply to the Beatles because each Beatle was great in his own individual way. The whole, or the quartet as a whole as we know is nonpareil. The parts, or the individuals who comprised the whole are truly outstanding.

Yeah, the Beatles and psychology. I always did say they applied to just about any topic.

Each Beatle in his own unique, individual way provided strength to the group as a whole. I guess, using Freudian terminology, describing George and Ringo as the "ego" is also a nod to the strength they contributed to the band as a whole.

John has brought out the ID in many, especially during the early days! John was fun.
