A BOXING champion has splashed out £12,800 on a Beatles album.

World super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has bought the Help LP signed "with best wishes" by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.

The album was sold to the 35-year-old on the satellite home shopping channel Auction- world.tv.

The album is from around 1966 to 1967, well before the Lennon McCartney rift that meant they would not sign anything else together.

The sale is a record for a single item sold on UK television.

The London-based fighter, nicknamed The Terminator, said: "It's fantastic, I have already bought a few things, an Ali/Frazer signed picture. "This is the best purchase tonight."

Joe's next fight is on June 14 at Cardiff.

It doesn't take the most extensive amount of research to find out that Help was released August 6th, 1965 (UK) / August 13th, 1965 (US).

There are also examples of complete signature sets from 1967-1970
