THE climax of the Live Aid concert has been voted the most memorable moment in rock history.
The finale of the London half of Bob Geldof's fundraiser in 1985 saw Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury sing Do They Know It's Christmas with numerous other artists.
It stuck in the minds of more music lovers in a poll of 4,500 than the death of Elvis and John Lennon's murder.
But the Beatles had five of the top 30 moments, including Lennon and Yoko Ono's "bed-in" peace demo and his "the Beatles are bigger than Jesus" outburst.
Michael Jackson's four moments included his first moonwalk and his hair catching fire filming a Pepsi advert.
Elvis was noted for his hip-wiggling, a leather suit and his death.
A spokesman for poll compilers splashdvd.com said: "The 80s was the most memorable decade and Live Aid got most votes by far. The 90s and 60s were joint second."
Elton John singing Candle in the Wind at Princess Diana's funeral scraped in at 29th place.
