I don't know if it's just me, but I have gotten really tired of American Dreams of late. It seems that all the lead character wants to do is dance on American Bandstand and I can't stand that stinky Patty character at all. I don't bother with the show anymore.
Although I avidly awaited the 1/5/03 episode featuring the Beatles, I was highly disappointed and didn't feel that the show was accurate or did justice to the times. I have caught too many inaccuracies thoughout each episode that I have seen.

You know, I started out watching that show every Sunday when it first came on... but since February or so I've stopped watching it and have conveniently forgotten to tape it, too. I did like it a lot when it first came on, but... eh, I don't know... I think the storylines got kind of wishy-washy after a while, and the characters are falling into boring stereotypes that we've seen a thousand times on other shows.

BB, are you interested in discussing the show in general or just the Beatles episode? If it's general, shall we move this to Here, There, and Everywhere?

The first and only episode I've seen is the one with the Beatles in it. And it was a pure dissapointment, they didn't have enough of the Beatles in it, so I haven't kept up with it.

You know what? I feel the same way...I've missed a few episodes because other things would come up. Later on, when I'd remember "Oh, yeah, American Dreams was on tonight." I'd then think, "Oh, it'll be on again soon (meaning a repeat of the episode I just missed). If I really like a show, then I would've remembered to watch it or if I wouldn't be home, I'd pop a tape in. I haven't done that with American Dreams once. With All in the Family, I taped that every single night (when it was on at decent hour on N@N). Anyway, the storylines and characters are becoming cliched and predictable now. The show is still better the most of what's out there now, but it's slipping (IMO). What a shame.

I agree w/all this so far. And has anyone noticed how on the previews they make it look like the show is going to be a total cliffhanger, and then it ends up being a let-down? Take for instance, when they showed a preview of something on fire in the pryor's driveway, like it was put there by someone, and then it turned out to be the little sister building a fire?! come on people....

They always make the commercials SOOOO interesting.... "This Sunday on American Dreams...an explosive episode..." It's like they're trying to pack every single '60s-era social issue into each and every episode, and it just doesn't work.
I agree with Kristi, too--the show had SO MUCH good potential when it started in the fall!! It's falling really quickly into overdone dramatic cliches, unfortunately. There were so many things they could have done with the show, but, alas...

Yeah, you all said it so well.
I noticed a number of things that were untrue to the times. For example, my natural mother said that beaded pony tail holders weren't on the market until 1966 - the reason she remembered that little tidbit was because the 1965-66 year was a turning point in her career.
I noticed other things. For one thing, the show has rammed the "Irish like the Kennedys" angle down the collective throats of viewers and the characters have lost a lot of steam and momentum. I'm tired of that silly girl tabling her life just to dance on American Bandstand and that father is for the birds. The show has gotten really tiresome and after late January I didn't bother with it anymore.
Sandra, I like your suggestion. This will be moved to HT&E.
