Yep your right, think it may have been timed for Macca's concerts in the UK, not that he really needed any advertising!

EEK! I lLOVE that last line! How true!! (IMHO..)
That is a thought provoking article. It povokes me to think and say things I once did, but have since forgotten.
Paul sometimes writes smarmy things because there is no one around to tell him not to. John would have written more wonderful music, and more not so wonderful music, had he lived. That is the way of humans and artists. No one is perfect. How can every piece be a miracle?
But to say that Macca can't sing, or that anyone else could sing his compositions better... c'mon! I think most people here would agree that that is impossible. Paul has a wonderful voice.

graemlins/images/icons/rolleyes.gif Yeah, Imagine was a load of crap graemlins/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
And what's with the "stiff" line? Is that supposed to be a joke? Hmm, in my day, jokes were supposed to be funny.

For my two cents...
the only problem with the logic from the orginal article posted in this thread is that Paul has a real problem with finishing songs, e.g., "Mother Nature's Son," or any other song where he ends up going "da da da dum" instead of actaully coming up with orginal lyrics.
the main issue here is that they are DIFFERENT. yes, paul was a better musician, technically. john could probably never compose a classical piece. but then again, could paul write introspective poetry/lyrics like "strawberry fields" or anything from Plastic Ono Band? it's just different types of talent. for me, it takes great lyric-writing AND great music-writing to create truly awesome songs. both john and paul do it quite well, in their own special ways.
it's like comparing the modern artist Chuck Close to Rembrant--both did lots of excellent portraits and self portraits, but the means by which they produced them were entirely different.

What leaves the mouth as “I like Paul McCartney” somehow arrives at the listener’s ears as “I think that Mull of Kintyre or Mary Had a Little Lamb are wonderful and I play them all the time”, the style police are called in and the unfortunate speaker gets a good kicking.

IMHO John or Paul, or George and Ringo for that matter, may have had moderate success in the 60's if they hadn't joined together in the Beatles. But when it comes right down to it, it doesn't matter who's better because none of them would have been much without the other three. They were all different and the Beatles needed that; music need that.

Actually, this made me laugh too because I HAVE been playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" incessantly lately. Not because I love it or anything, but because it's got a nice simple bass line that I can actually play fast enough to play along with the record. Most of Paul's bass lines are too tough for me, but this one is perfect for me to practise with! Don't tell the Style Police! images/icons/smile.gif

No, I'm being serious! I really like the song, but then again, perhaps it is because I don't hear it all that much? I dunno. I think the video is lovely and, and, and well, I just like the way it sounds!

Actually, Rocky Rabbit, I've got to go against the grain also and say that I've never cared for it either. I've tried to like it. Maybe it's because of what you've said about it, my coming from an English/Scottish background. I've also just never really liked it. images/icons/grin.gif
I'm sorry but this person is doing Paul no service about being bitter towards Lennon. I mean, is it Lennon's fault that Imagine was voted 2nd best song and one of Paul's songs wasn't?
He should talk about Paul's work as it is, not trying to berate Lennon as if it is all his fault.
one more thing... I saw this book this weekend called One Day At a Time- it was a small book on Lennon that was published a MONTH before he was killed.... people have said many times that since John's death, he has ben elevated into something he was not before he died, so I was very curious about this book and how it would portray Lennon- it was by Anthony Fawcett-.........I read it and noticed that the book could pass for a book about John today with only a chapter of him dying put as an ending chapter. It said the SAME THINGS that all books since he died have said- it PORTRAYED him the SAME WAY as well, so what they say is not true- this book could pass as one made today or tomorrow. So the naysayers like this man who is bitter at John is simply being bitter.

Practically every pro-John article rips him to shreds. I just never understand why people feel this intense need to insult the other ones to try to exalt the status of their favorites, but it happens so often that it's tiring.

I agree with that statement as well. I'm sick of the way people keep trying to find who was the best and the brains behind the beatles. I think part of what made john and paul great when they were with the beatles is that they could bounce ideas off each other and help each other out. anyway that's my two cents worth.

There is rivalry between Lennon and McCartney fans because there was a rivalry between Lennon and McCartney! They would both say especially Lennon, they are just songs. Take whatever you like. It will be different for everyone cause we all have perceptions. Its nice to see the moderators quote someone besides the Beatles.
