I have decided to create a Beatle website, following the trend set by a good many of you fine people. My questions are about making one. What is the best site to make one under? I have already signed up with Angelfire, which is very difficult so far, above me, which is also confusing, and The Globe, which is fairly easy, but doesn't give you very much freedom to work with the site. What would you guys recommend? Are there any other servers that would be good? Thanks for the help. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The best thing to do is to download something like AOLpress or Frontpage express. It helps ALOT! Good servers are: Angelfire, fortunecity.com (gives you 100 mb of space)theglobe, freeservers.com, virtualave.com. Geocities is easy, but they suck. They delete your pages for some reason. So because of that, I am moving my entire page to a new server. The best thing to do is to do a search on the web. heres a really long link to go to. It's just through yahoo, so if you want to search yourself, search for free web services. if you need any help, feel free to email me. My email is beatlemethisbeatlemethat@mail.com

I use Frontpage Express to design my pages, www.aboveme.com (http://www.aboveme.com) to publish them. aboveme.com is pretty good. It offers 20mb space and has quite a few features. Don't bother with the templates however as they're rubbish. Use Frontpage Express as it's brilliant. I use www.bravenet.com (http://www.bravenet.com) for things like the mailing list, poll, links page, counter...etc. It's free and absolutly brilliant. There's a ton of features. Then I used www.web.com (http://www.web.com) to create a domain name. Most people have domain names like www.anglefire.com/eee/bidghdk/fikhsv'djdbd/dgndf/gndgn/dfndgn/gndg/ndn/dfndg/netnef/nenes/netnwr/nen/sfh (http://www.anglefire.com/eee/bidghdk/fikhsv'djdbd/dgndf/gndgn/dfndgn/gndg/ndn/dfndg/netnef/nenes/netnwr/nen/sfh) to get to their page, but you can get a another name like www.dfkjbf.web.com. (http://www.dfkjbf.web.com.) Much easier and free. You don't have to change servers either. It's like another way to get to your site!
Hope this helps.
What is your page going to be about? You can't have anything to do with Paul is Dead as that's my expertise. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Don't worry, I won't make a Paul is Dead site, or I may die myself. Just a generic OBD site called 'Beatleism.'

I came up with it in school is all. We were learning about Bhuddism. You see, I am practically blind and between that and my Beatle fried mind, I thought that the chalkboard said Beatleism.

Penny, I use plain ole notepad to write my source code. There's no program to run, I can edit as often as I want, and it's easy to upload (with direct FTP). What I did is knock a page about for awhile, and try various things to change it around. I'm thinking of making a template for those who want to use notepad rather than downloading some memory-expensive program.
If you'd like, I can email a template to you, but you will have to use "Advanced" editing on Angelfire, or use copy/paste in the "Beginner/Basic" mode.
Or if you'd rather, you can go here, go to your tools on your browser, and view the source. Save it in a folder just for your new site, change all the info inside the html code to what you want to say, and there you go! Instant page!
Our Lady's Psalter (http://www.angelfire.com/la2/peaceful).
Don't worry about anyone accusing you of stealing their source code, it is my site, and I give you my permission to use and adapt it for yourself. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for the kindness, Sleepy. I think I have to educate myself on this website stuff. I am afraid that I barely understood your post! Thank you, though, for offering to share your template and sourse code. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry for the lesson in Greek, Penny, LOL! Hypertext Markup Language is what your browser uses to determine how to present the info on your page. Type this on a notepad, remembering to save it as "index.html" (without the quotes, of course) in your new site's folder on your harddrive. Later, you will click the browse button for uploading, open this folder, double-click this page, check the "overwrite" button, and click "upload".
<html>
<title>Penny's Site</title>
<body>
My name is Penny, and I LOVE the Beatles!
</body>
</html>
This is, believe it or not, the "source code" for a basic page that the viewer will see as a white background, with the sentence "My name is Penny, and I LOVE the Beatles!" on it, and the legend "Penny's Site" across the coloured bar at the top of their browser.
The sentence will be aligned on the left, and vertically aligned at the top. What size print will it be? We've left that a variable, so it will strictly depend on how your viewer has his/her browser set up. I have mine set to display all undefined text in black, with the font face set at "Comic Sans Ms", and a nice "medium" height.
I have my optional links set to the standard "blue", "red" for selected links, and "purple" for visited links. These are the universal defaults, and so will your page display them this way.
Now you have a page...Lesson 2 tomorrow!
