Carry That Weight: The Secret History of the Beatles
Geoffrey Giuliano
Synopsis
If Paul McCartney hits the headlines it's probably in connection with his charity work. George Harrison lived a quiet life and Ringo Starr keeps a very low profile indeed. Even Lennon, the rebellious one, had become a house-husband before his murder. Faced with this respectable picture, it's easy to forget just how extraordinary the Beatles' lives have been. Theirs is the ultimate celebrity story - too much success too young, too much money, and too many temptations. Chock full of revelations, "Carry that Weight" restores the Beatles to their place in the hell-raising rock canon. Geoffrey Guiliano has drawn on his archive of unpublished Beatles material to write an in-depth biography. The basic facts may be legendary: four lads from Liverpool are spotted at the Cavern by Brian Epstein, rocket to worldwide fame, release some of the most influential albums of all time, and split. But behind the legend he reveals the hidden story of four troubled young men, of the relationships they forged and wifully broke, of the huge price they paid for their wealth and fame. From childhood to the present day, this book reveals the human reality behind the Beatles myth.

I saw this book at the store... His writing style would be suitable for a tabloid magazine and that may still be too good for him!
I'll give this book 2 moons! graemlins/mooner.gif graemlins/mooner.gif

I'd like to know where all this "unpublished" material is from, because last I heard hearsay and information plucked from ones own imagination didn't constitute being called non-fiction.

Okay, if I ever win the lottery and can afford extensive travel, I resolve to write a tabloid expose of Giuliano, interviewing everyone who he has ever p*ssed off...paperback form so eeeeveryone can read it.

...the title is "Poison Penman"
In Sept last year Guiliano put out a press release claiming he was in one of the planes that hit the trade towers..he has had many arrest warrants put out for him, pushed his way into George's house, and has been cited for fraud and libel countless times..his wife and son were once in a car accident, where someone was seriously hurt and they tried to stop people on the scene from calling ambulances, consequently the police were called..0n 1 December last year, he was alreay approaching people for a new "tell all" book on George..and lets all try and forget about his close buissness assocaitions with Fred Seaman.. So all up, he's a pretty nice guy then??

Aliens wouldn't waste the effort on Giuliano...because he IS an alien.
Just look at his face.
The "self-proclaimed" Fab-experts are always usually the blags - the genuine real ones don't need to elect themselves that way.
George said "this guy seems to know more about my life than I do"... and the acid-casualty cretin took it seriously (or pretended to) and used
the quote to endorse his book.
Unbelieveable.
Obviously can't tell when scousers are being sarcastic. Yep, someone else who probably thinks "Yer blues" is Lennon at his most uptight and bitter , when all he's doing in that song is taking the p*ss out of Eric Clapton.
Why be so SERIOUS about The Beatles songs? Especially Lennon's......HE sure as hell wasn't.
Shame John isn't around to laugh at him.
An American Beatle-obsessed drug casualty with a personality disorder...
...as were ******* and Manson.
I rest my case.

Needless to say, I've never seen him at any of the conventions 'coz if he showed up he'd probably get lynched.
What he need's a damn good whacking.
graemlins/images/icons/confused.gif <----- There he is. He hasn't a clue.

Hasn't this guy already made enough money out of The Beatles?
Although I guess to the truly unknowledgeable person about the Beatles his words might carry some weight! I sure hope not though!
And as for him seemingly taking George;s sarcastic little comment as an endorsement of his book that is just too funny!
He obviously doesn;t see how much of an IDIOT that makes him look like!
Maybe nobody will be interested in his drivel!Let's hope so!

I think you hit the nail on the head, Savoy Truffle! The problem here is that people who don't know much about the Beatles and are seeking information (LEGIT information) will think this guy is reputable, simply because of the sheer number of books he has out there in the marketplace. So, unfortunately, a lot of newer fans are suckered by him!
I wouldn't mind so much if his books were simply unfavorable or presented a different point of view. That's actually a GOOD thing. The problem with GG is that a lot of his books (particularly the more recent ones) are just slimy and tabloidy pieces of trash in which he expands hearsay as fact or reports incidents as if he were THERE as they happened. (Some excerpts from his book "Lennon In America" spring to mind -- particularly one torrid bit of tabloid trash in which he went so far as to say that John's own mother seduced him as a teenager -- complete with invented dialogue and the thoughts supposedly running through John's head! Gimme a break!)
I just hope that eventually the people who are suckered in by GG and his brand of "journalism" find better and more reputable books to read to balance the trash.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">The sad thing is that you're right HMVNipper, that's true. My friend, not really "into" the Beatles, but liked them more because his favourite bands were into them, got the Lennon in America book. He was all like, "Did you know that John kicked 'that fifth beatle' Stu in the head and that's how he died? Is that true?" I was like, "Ahhh don't READ that stupid book, it's all lies. No, it's not true." But how was he to know? He didn't know who GG was. That's what makes me most mad about his books. WE know what he's like, but a lot of people do not. images/icons/frown.gif

As much as I dislike GG's works, what really gets me is that he still has axes to grind against each Beatle. I, too am perturbed by the idea that people reading his works might actually think he is a reputable source.
The "literary" topper for me was when Olivia, highly displeased about "Dark Horse," wrote a rebuttal to GG and he just appeared to dismiss and disregard her feelings. Nice guy, eh? And that sick business with 9/11/01 - I think it takes an extremely warped mind to pull a stunt like that.
As for those bad checks -- he ought to get the best lawyer green stamps can buy because his credit is like is credibility -- NULL & VOID!

In reply to Maharishi: Thankyou! Glad to be appreciated! Not that I was trying to be funny whilst on such a serious subject but I can't help it, I guess. For further reading, you should see my post on page 1 of want to get really mad? It's easily my best so far.
Oh, and thanks for cleaning up my post Bearkat - I (of all people) should have realised before
that the c-word was banned.............
Sorry if I offended - It WON'T happen again.
Now, Giuliano.....as for this King of The colony of sad jerks....he just doesn't give up, does he? And yes, you look at his face and think that at any minute he could pull his skin back and reveal himself to be one of the aliens from "V". What swamp did he crawl out from? I fear we may be giving him more attention than he's worth by creating this topic but we do need to expose the misfits, I suppose. His in-depth ever-so intriguing interviews with "Auntie Nelly" and suchlike are about as exclusive as fresh air and full of nothing but hot air.
He seems to actually believe most of the
Garbage-dump-of-rock-music scraps & morsels he lays claim to.....
Now, how bloody scary is that?
There's hope for me yet!
Not so much barrel-scrapings of information,
....more dried-up dog-food tin leftovers. Olivia got it spot on:
"scavenging mongrel".
It's just that dogs usually have better personality traits.
Especially Beagles.
Sorry...couldn't resist it.
Ah, sod him, he's not worth the effort........

Not only am I angry at this jerk, but at the publishing company that continually prints his perversion of truth.
There should be a disclaimer on the jacket that this work is true fiction and totally the result of acid reflux disease of the author's brain.

My one friend gave me GG's books on tape. I haven't even opened that. I didn't tell him who GG was and what he writes about. I didn't want to hurt my friend's feelings. So, the tape just sits there. I'll probably never open it. I can't get rid of it because my friend gave it to me. It's kinda like when my aunt gave me Goldman's book (not really knowing about him). I can't throw it away.

All right, folks. Get your pie throwing arms limbered up and be ready to aim those pies flambe at GG!
I am good and tired of his tabloid tactics and his efforts to cash in on and trash the Beatles.
Prelly, plug in the name Guiliano or GG and you will pull up an archive full of threads about this man. In recent months he was arrested and he is a notorious fraud.
Neil was right, (and funny too, have I met you at convention, Neil?) this ******* will NEVER be seen at any convention, and clearly doesnt know, or care, that he is villified throughout Beatledom, but try to remember something folks, the Fabs message was all about Love, Peace and tolerance, and given that new Beatles fans will eventually meet up with an older, wiser fan who will put them straight, we dont need to worry about them getting bad info, we can all set them on the right road. I wouldn't let the jerk get to me, he is beneath contempt, and not worth getting upset about, George said, 'Love one another' And since we all find it hard to extend that thought to the likes of this turd, we can simply try to counteract his evil with the good that is the legacy of our favourite 4 people. End of sermon. Hare Krishna.
