THE last material recorded by late Beatle George Harrison could give him a posthumous number one album on the first anniversary of his death.
Record bosses announced that his Brainwashed album, recorded just two months before his death, will be released on November 18.
That means if it heads to the top of the charts in its first week as is widely tipped, it will be there for the date of his death on November 29.
Harrison, who died aged 58 after a battle with cancer, has already had a chart-topper since his death when the single My Sweet Lord was rereleased earlier this year.
Brainwashed is his first album of new recordings since Cloud Nine in 1987 and will be released through his label Dark Horse and EMI.
The guitarist co-produced the 12 tracks - 11 of which are new Harrison songs - with his son Dhani and former ELO frontman Jeff Lynne.
Lynne had a long association with Harrison and performed alongside him in the Travelling Wilburys as well as producing the "new" Beatles tracks created for the Anthology album in the mid-90s.
He said that father and son had put plenty of preparation into the songs before he became involved.
"Before we started working on the album, George and Dhani had collaborated extensively on preproduction, " Lynne explained.
"George would come round my house and he'd always have a new song with him. He would strum them on a guitar or ukulele. The songs just knocked me out."
Lynne and Dhani have spent much of this year completing the final work on the album.
"George constantly talked about how he wanted the album to sound and there was always that spiritual energy that went into the lyrics as well as the music," Lynne added.
David Munns, vice chairman of EMI Recorded Music said: "EMI is thrilled to have this new affiliation with Dark Horse.
"George Harrison is an absolutely legendary artist and this is an extraordinary record and a testament to his genius. We are proud to offer this album to the world."

We should try to pre-order it if possible. The better the sales in the first week, the more likely this album will be noticed by the media, leading to more sales.

I think "Brainwashed" going to #1 would be wonderful (if bittersweet). What do you say, folks? If we can, let's all try to buy it the week it comes out, and help give George the sendoff he deserves! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/smile1.gif

I agree! And I'll also partake of those
solo reissues. Has anyone heard whether "Live in Japan" will be released again?

Another thought...
You know, if the sales are good, it may show the record company that there is a market for this stuff to be reissued.
Also, the Harrison family would see that, too! Maybe we'd see more stuff!!!

It probably won`t go to No. 1 in Britain and most of Europe, because on the same day Robbie Williams will release his new album "Escapology".

Who the #$@&# is Robbie Williams, if that's not too stupid a question...I never heard of him. Of COURSE George's CD will be number one.
I know I'm not too "up to date" on the newer music and all, but I've never even heard this guys name before, so he can't be all THAT big, certainly not George Harrison big.George, now HIM I have heard of.

I don't know how sales will do for this guy Robbie Williams vs. George over there, but here in the states, it's a no brainer who'll come out on top.
Tut tut, Angel, I've never heard of this guy either! He may as well be named Joe Blow as far as I'm concerned. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Is it any wonder why I love John so much?

George would definetely deserve it, not Robbie Williams. I never heard of the guy ever in the States either; but he is pretty big in Europe (why, I don't know); he's English, used to be in a boygroup but sings solo now. That's about all I know about him. I personally think he's a crackhead. Over here in Germany, I'll definetely buy George's album on the first day!
