Verizon Calls on the Beatles

NEW YORK -- Another Beatles song has been transformed into an ad jingle, this time for Verizon.

The telco on Tuesday is launching a TV, radio and direct mail effort in New York State and Boston to tout "Veriations All," a package that includes all the company's products and services at a discount and on one bill. To drive home the point, Verizon is using the Beatles 1968 song "All Together Now."

The campaign, via Draft Worldwide, New York, coincides with the release of Veriations, which includes local, long distance, DSL and wireless on one bill.

TV consists of a 30: and two 60: spots, one of which will feature pitchman James Earl Jones. Spending was not available. Verizon spent $633 million last year on media, per CMR. The campaign will run through October.

Actually FT you CAN have your phone ring Beatles songs. Here is one site I found, but I'm sure that there are others, this one you can program it yourself. Other places on the web you can buy them for $2-3. Personally I want one that plays Helter Skelter, but you can't have everything. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif http://tamingthebeast.net/ringtones/ringtones2.php3

I'd love one that played "She Loves You." I promise I'd never say "Can you hear me now? Good." That slogan has been worn out.

I just saw this commercial - the 30-second one - on NBC! A few minutes ago (I was online and had the TV on in the background).

I usually don't like hearing Beatles songs in commercial jingles. It just doesn't sound right when the songs are re-recorded (and usually arranged differently as well). But this recording was pretty faithful to the original song. And, if you've ever seen "Yellow Submarine," it's exactly like the end credits, where they display the lyrics on the screen, except it says stuff like "long distance rates." It's even in the same typeface as the YS credits. I thought that was a nice touch. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/smile1.gif

Believe it or not, the first place I ever heard "All Together Now" was on Sesame Street, and God, was that a long time ago! That would be cool to have a cell phone play that song!
