The Beatle played at the Futurist Theater in Scarborough twice, on the 11th December 1963 and the 9th of august 1964. The theater is on the sea front and the streets were so packed with fans that the whole foreshore had to be closed. The Beatles came out to wave at the fans from the roof of the theater. (My Dad was there!) The stupid council in Scarborough now want to shut down the piece of history (which was also the venue for a lot of other big proformers and musicans and is itself a beautiful old building) and convert it into flats. Sound to me likt the worst idea since they shut the Cavern down in the seventies.

Anyway, for my one man campaign, I was wondering if anyone had any pictures, info, etc of the Beatles playing there in Scarborough, Yorkshire, UK in 1963 and 64?

I'm surprised that the fact that the Beatles once played there wasn't enough to attract interest and keep it open.

I'd like to thank you on behalf of the group, and hope we pass the audition.

I should think that would be reason enough to keep it open!

I too think they should keep it open, but on the other hand I am all for preserving beautiful old buildings by making flats or putting them to other uses, rather than seeing them torn down, and their history lost forever

I think that it should be kept.

How about this for a compromise? Keep the building, but use it for something else, like flats. That was a good idea you had. How about using it for a hotel or maybe even a Beatle museum?
