IT'S A Beatles double for the Queen tomorrow, when she makes her official Jubilee visit to Liverpool.

She will meet Paul McCartney and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono during her historic few hours in the city.

The Queen first makes a flying visit to Liverpool John Lennon airport to meet Yoko, open the new terminal building and unveil a plaque marking her visit.

Her husband will be presenting certificates to Duke of Edinburgh Awards winners at Bootle town hall at the same time.

The royal couple will then meet up before being welcomed by Sir Paul McCartney and Lady McCartney for a guided tour of the Walker Art Gallery.

Sir Paul famously sang Yesterday to the Queen at a Royal Variety performance in the 1960s and was the headline act at the recent jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace.

At 12.30pm the royal couple will have the chance to meet the people of Liverpool on a walkabout in Castle Street before watching the crowds from the town hall balcony.

They will watch a cultural carnival from the balcony featuring floats representing countries of the world and the Lord Mayor's state coach.

The carnival is starting from the Maritime museum on the waterfront before moving up Mann Island, across the Strand on to James Street, along Castle Street, Water Street and the Strand before finishing at the Pier Head.

The Royal couple will then meet dignitaries including Lord Mayor Jack Spriggs for lunch where she will give a speech celebrating 50 years in the north west.

* THE QUEEN'S visit to Liverpool will mean a number of roads will be closed in the city centre.

Castle Street, Water Street, Brunswick Street, James Street, Exchange Street West and High Street will all be closed from midnight tonight until late afternoon tomorrow.

Dale Street will be closed from 10.30am on Thursday until late afternoon.

**************
LIVERPOOL, England (AP) -- Queen Elizabeth II made two stops in Liverpool on Thursday devoted to the Beatles, opening a new 32 million-pound ($48 million) passenger terminal at John Lennon Airport and attending an exhibit of paintings by Paul McCartney.

At the airport, the queen met with Yoko Ono, the widow of the murdered Beatle, and viewed a life-size bronze statue of Lennon, complete with his trademark round spectacles and swept back hair.

Dressed in an aquamarine coat and hat, the queen chatted to Ono and sculptor Tom Murphy, creator of the Lennon statue.

Ono, who wore a white suit, diamond earrings and sunglasses, said afterward that "John would have been very proud and honored."

After a short address by airport chairman Robert Hough, the queen unveiled a commemorative plaque and signed the airport visitor's book, before leaving in her Bentley for a meeting with McCartney at Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery.

The 60-year-old former Beatle showed the monarch around a display of 70 of his largely abstract paintings and sculptures, saying afterward, "I think she liked them. She said they were very colorful, and I took that as a great compliment."

Curators had removed three canvases of the queen herself, one of which was entitled, "The queen after her first cigarette."

McCartney, who was accompanied by his new wife, Heather Mills, said he would have been happy to show them to the monarch. "They are very affectionate, and I think she has a good sense of humor," he said.

In keeping with his animal-rights beliefs, McCartney avoided using leather by wearing black track shoes along with his dark suit.

Later Thursday, the queen, who is touring the country with her husband, Prince Phillip, to mark her 50 years on the throne, was to open the 17th Commonwealth Games in the nearby city of Manchester.
