Bank staff in Wisconsin phoned police after confusing a Beatles tribute band for a gang of robbers.

Officials raised the alarm when three of the men entered the bank wearing dark clothes and dark glasses.

Police released the group when its members explained they had just stopped to cash a cheque.

They drive in a van with tinted windows.

The Leader-Telegram newspaper says staff at the Firstar Bank in Eau Claire became suspicious when one of the musicians stood near the front door and put his dark glasses on.

Police say the band from New Jersey were happy to co-operate when officers explained the situation.
