When Queen Elizabeth and her fellow citizens celebrate her 50th year as
monarch this June, the Queen's Golden Jubilee will be rocking. A number of
Britain's top rockers, including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and Mick
Jagger, have already signed on to take part in an evening of rock'n'roll
that will take place on the lawn of Buckingham Palace, according to sources.

Tickets will be doled out by raffle. Among the American musical royalty
tentatively slated to participate are Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. Sir
George Martin is musical director of the overall event, which also includes
a classical evening, while Phil Ramone and Michael Kamen are also expected
to have musical responsibilities. The concerts will be broadcast on the BBC.

The shows won't be the only musical extravaganzas happening in the U.K. that
month. The Isle of Wight Festival, which was last staged in 1970, will
return on June 3 with a lineup likely to include the Strokes, the
Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers, and Pulp, according to reports. An
official announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

An Update...

http://www.ananova.com/yournews/story/sm_505591.html

McCartney, Jagger and Stereophonics wanted for Jubilee concert

Sir Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and the Stereophonics have all been approached to perform at a special concert to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

The concert on June 3 is to be shown on the BBC.

Phil Collins has also been asked to appear.

A spokesman for the BBC told the Sunday Telegraph: "The idea is to create interesting collaborations.

"We will have collaborations between the old and the young. The idea is to have the best of British music and use it in different ways".

The Stereophonics covered "Revolution" with Jools Holland on his latest CD (the one with George's "Horse to the Water"). Should be interesting to see what they'd do if they got together with Paul.

Macca and Phil Collins expected to perform at Jubilee concert

Sir Paul McCartney and Phil Collins are expected to perform at a concert for the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

The pop concert will take place in the grounds of Buckingham Palace on June 3.

Tickets will be available free from February 12.

Aretha Franklin is also among stars set to play for the Queen along with possibles Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams, Eric Clapton, Bryan Adams and Stevie Wonder.

The Palace will confirm the star billing when details of how to apply for tickets - through a phone line or on the Internet - are announced next month.

On February 12, the Palace will also release details of how to apply for free tickets for a June 1 classical concert in the Queen's garden. It is the first time the Palace grounds, usually the venue for exclusive royal garden parties, will be opened for public concerts.

Tickets for the pop and classical concerts, during an extended June Bank Holiday weekend, will be allocated by ballot. There are 14,000 tickets for each.

The events will be televised worldwide by the BBC and will be shown on giant screens erected near the Palace for people without tickets. Following the pop concert on Monday June 3, the Queen will light a beacon signalling the start of a spectacular firework display and a chain of beacons stretching across the UK and the Commonwealth.

In addition, on Tuesday June 4, there will be a Golden Jubilee Carnival Pageant in The Mall, close to the Palace.

The Queen will attend a National Thanksgiving Service at St Paul's Cathedral, London, on June 4, followed by a Golden Jubilee lunch at Guildhall in the City of London.

The long 2002 Bank Holiday weekend starts on Saturday June 1 with the classical concert in the Palace garden.

On Sunday June 2, there will be Jubilee church services and bell-ringing across the UK.

Here is a handy checklist of Golden Jubilee Weekend events:

June 1: Classical concert in Buckingham Palace garden.

June 2: Jubilee church services; and bell-ringing across the UK.

June 3: Pop concert in Palace garden; Beacon lighting; and firework display.

June 4: Ceremonial procession to St Paul's Cathedral for National Service of Thanksgiving; Lord Mayor of London royal hosts lunch at Guildhall; Golden Jubilee Carnival Pageant in The Mall.

Buckingham Palace delay Jubilee concert announcement

An announcement about the Queen's Golden Jubilee concert has been delayed because of Princess Margaret's death.

The Palace will now confirm the star billing when details of how to apply for tickets are announced on February 26.

Tickets will be available through a phone line or on the Internet.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace told Ananova: "The announcement was supposed to happen on February 12, but it was postponed because of recent events."

From Dotmusic.com:
"Sir Paul McCartney has refused to perform a duet with 'Pop Idol' Will
Young, according to reports. McCartney, who joins Young as part of the
line-up for
the Queen's Golden Jubilee concert this summer, is said to have told Young's
'people' that he doesn't believe in the manufactured pop programme and wants
nothing to do with it. According to tabloid reports, 19 Management boss
Simon Fuller was confident that the former Beatle would accept the offer to
sing with 23-year-old Will.
The rejection is said to have come straight from Macca, who is currently
touring the US with a sold-out comeback tour, 'Driving USA'."

But then I remembered something... didn´t they cover the Bangles´ "ETERNAL flame"? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/smile1.gif

Just wanted to make sure before we´re all trying to find out how their version of a Macca song sounds... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/laugh2.gif
