One of the late George Harrison's last compositions and recordings comes out today (January 8), but it's not the only recent release featuring the ex- Beatle, nor is it likely to be the last we hear from him. Harrison's "Horse To The Water"--which he co-wrote with his son Dhani--appears on Jools Holland's Big Band Rhythm & Blues, a 22-song all-star collection put together by the former Squeeze keyboardist and British TV host. Holland and his band cut the track in London in early 2001, and Harrison later recorded his vocal in Switzerland, where he was receiving cancer treatments.
Others featured on the album include Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Van Morrison, and Mark Knopfler.
Meanwhile, Harrison's slide guitar also graces "Anna Julia," the first single from Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi's latest solo album, Living On The Outside, which is available as an import. Capaldi told Rolling Stone magazine, "I asked (Harrison) if he would play on it, because it had a very Beatle-y vibe, and he was only too pleased to do it for me. I was honored and grateful."
On January 14, Capitol and Parlophone Records will re-release Harrison's first Number One solo single, "My Sweet Lord," with proceeds going to the Material World Charitable Foundation, which he set up in 1973 to support other charities around the world.
Harrison's family is still determining what to do with recordings he was making for a new solo album, which was reportedly to be titled Portrait Of A Leg End. Harrison died at age 58 on November 29.
