Fans of the late George Harrison can take a walk down memory lane in London, where the Beatles are the focus of two tours from the Original London Walks tour company (011 44 20-7624-3978; www.walks.com). (http://www.walks.com).)

The Fab Four lived in London from 1963 until the band's breakup in 1970. For five pounds (about $7), the "In My Life" guided walk steers fans past the film locations of A Hard Day's Night and Help! and the house where Paul McCartney lived with his longtime girlfriend Jane Asher.

The "Magical Mystery Tour" emphasizes the places associated with the group's recording career through nine stops at sites including the headquarters of McCartney's music publishing empire, McCartney Productions Ltd., and the London Palladium, where the lads from Liverpool caused a near-riot during a 1963 appearance.

Other Beatle-related sites in the area worth visiting:
· London Beatles Store - Filled with calendars, key chains, T-shirts, coffee mugs, ashtrays, posters, books and every other imaginable form of memorabilia (011 44 20-7935-4464; 231 Baker St.).
· Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum - One of London's cheesiest and most irresistible tourist traps, you can have your picture taken with one of the Beatles figures on display (Marylebone Road; 011 44 20 7935 6861).
· British Library - Among the treasures are handwritten drafts of some of John Lennon and McCartney's best-loved tunes (96 Euston Road; 011 44 020-7412-7676).

I took the Magical Mistery Tour... pretty interesting, but what you have to do is return to the places the guy brought you to visit... it's not one minute in front of Savile Row 3 which makes them so wonderful... anyway, I liked it, and I feel to suggest them to a person who doesn't have a lot of time to spend in London, that is a great idea, since it's made by experts... Oh, and I forgot, they have also a kinda stereo, so that meantime you walk you listen to Beatles songs, and people who sees you singing along thinks you are a bit stupid, thehe, but I kept singing, and that made it even better http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif (I remember they player I Saw Her Standig There on front of MPL http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif)

I have also been on one of the walking tours and the guide (Richard Porter) is extremely knowledgeable. He was also a guest speaker at Beatlefest last year (in Chicago, anyway) by coincidence and recently published a book of the sights. It's very useful if you want to cycle back on your own or expand the tour beyond what he can show you in a few hours. Both the Magical Mystery Tour and In My Life tours end up at Abbey Road (formerly EMI) studios, in St. John's Wood, which was a real thrill.

I loved the tours! That guy Richard is very onto it - I think he won that Beatle Brain of Britain award or something!

When you are out on it he shows these little photos of the 2 times he has met Paul...and one of them was during one of the tours when Paul happened to be going into Abbey Road just as the tour went past. WHAT LUCK!!!!

He was nice enough to email me when he published that book and when I was on the tour he told me the best one to take when I was in Liverpool.

When I go back to London, I'll probably do them again!! Well worth it.

I want to visit England sometime before I'm too old to move around - I need to win the Lotto! I would LOVE to go on one of these tours (or both) and I would love to go to that Beatles festival in Liverpool in August.

I've taken this tour twice! A friend of mine who took it in November told me that the guide no longer carries the stereo around with him, so you don't have to worry about feeling foolish anymore! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I also did one of the Liverpool tours. Richard pointed me to a website with the details, which is also part of his book. The tour started from the Beatles exhibit at the Mersey dock, which was fantastic. The exhibit is very detailed, and each room represents a different time period in their history. Of course, there's a large shop at the end. My wife and I only had one afternoon to spend in Liverpool, and we were lucky enough to get the last two tickets on the last coach tour of the day. The coach was to have been the Magical Mystery Tour bus, but it was out for repairs. We went all over the city, with stops at Arnold Grove (George's home), Forthlin Road, (Paul) and Penny Lane, where we could get out and walk about. The tour ended at Mathew Street and the Cavern. A splendid time was had by all.

Somebody gave one of these little books that tell you where to walk with a map and indicates all the Beatle related places if you fancied doing it alone.

Going to see if I can do in an hour in my lunch break.

Heehee Sally that reminds me of when I was in Liverpool and a guy in a shop gave me a free Beatle-related map because I had spent soooo much money in there...anyway I was determined to go to all the places that I hadn't been to on the tour earlier that day and I got soooo lost!!
I was taking myself to Gambier Tce to see John and Stu's flat and this poor man came up to me and explained that he had lost his dog and would I help him. Little did he know I was more lost than the dog would have been!!

Later on after I had made it there and to a couple of other places I decided I wanted to go back to Strawberry Field which wasn't all that far from where I was staying....or so I thought. I was asking for directions home left right and centre (which didn't turn out to be all that helpful because I couldn't understand the accent no matter how many times they repeated themselves) and even when I finally got back to where I wanted to, I got on the wrong bus and ended up walking through the dead of night even more confused.

Oooh well, it was more than worth it!!!!!
