Beatles' Cavern has new landlord
Liverpool's Cavern nightclub - immortalised by the Beatles - has a new landlord.
Warner Estate Holdings has bought the club, now part of a leisure, shopping and office complex, from privately-owned Moorfield Capital Partners.
The club is one of seven properties being bought by Warner in a £97 million deal, including office blocks in Bournemouth, Leeds, Redhill and Solihull.
Warner is spending £11 million on the Cavern complex, and property director Richard Moore said he was delighted the group had taken over the club.
"It's exciting, very exciting. You don't get very many opportunities to buy something with a name like that these days," he said.
The Cavern rose to fame in 1961 when the Beatles returned from Hamburg and played the first of many gigs at the venue.
Mr Moore said that while the shopping centre at the site needed "a bit more tender loving care", the famous nightclub would largely be left alone.
"We will work with the present management, but the Cavern itself is the Cavern, you don't want to be changing too much about that," he said.
Moorfield has decided to sell off certain assets after leaving the stock market earlier this year.
