B THERE THEN!

A rare recorded chat between THE BEATLES and the BEACH BOYS is expected to sell for around £5,000 in an online auction this week.

The conversation, recorded onto acetate in 1964, was bought for $5 at a market in California earlier this year. On the recording, Beach Boy Brian Wilson is heard joking with John Lennon about The Beatles hair and clothes. They also discuss The Beatles untitled forthcoming film. The film would become 'A Hard Day's Night'.

The recordings were made during a simultaneous telephone interview with the two bands as promotion for a Hollywood event.

"It's interesting because the interview was recorded at the height of their fame, and The Beatles and the Beach Boys were big mutual fans of each other's music, as different as they were," said Mr Gioia, of auctioneers Collectors Universe Inc. told the BBC. "It's fun to listen to, it's a real stitch," he added.

A fan spotted the record with its typewritten label in a box at a flea market in Newport Beach near Los Angeles. The auction closes tomorrow (November 14). Fans can make their bid at www.collectors.com (http://www.collectors.com)

Interesting. Isn't there some bootleg of it?

Oh, how I would love to get my hands on that one!! Now, if I only had 5,000 quid for that opening bid. The Beatles and The Beach Boys on the same tape? As Tommy Chong would say, "Far out, man!!"

$10 Beatles recording, fetches $20,100 at online auction

A six-minute telephone interview with the Beatles recorded in 1964 and
bought at a flea market for $10, has sold for $20,100 at an online
auction.

The Newport Beach, California-based Collectors Universe did not release
the name of the winning bidder.

"The recording is an extraordinary conference call, a simultaneous
telephone interview of all four Beatles, plus Brian Wilson of the Beach
Boys, and surfing music guitarist Dick Dale," said Dave Gioia of publicly
held Collectors Universe.

The recording includes comments by Beatles John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
George Harrison and Ringo Star, along with Wilson and Dale.

There also are brief excerpts from the Beatles hit Can't Buy Me Love, the
Beach Boys' classic Fun, Fun, Fun ('till her Daddy takes the T-Bird away)
and Dale's instrumental Mr Eliminator.

During the verbal interplay, the Beatles talk about their clothing and
hair styles, the 1963 start of their recording career, and an untitled
movie project that eventually became the acclaimed A Hard Day's Night.

"The recording was made on March 11, 1964 at the height of Beatlemania to
promote a Hollywood event called the Teen Fair. It was pressed on an
eight-inch 33 1/3 RPM Capitol Records acetate disk with a typewritten
label," said Gioia.

"Earlier this year, a record collector bought it for only $5 at a Los
Angeles area flea market, and he consigned it to the auction," he said.

"Obviously, it was worth a lot more than five bucks. It apparently is the
only copy in existence."

You forgot the "A" in Beetles. I saw it in a dream about a flaming Pie,and so we dropped the "E" and replaced it with an "A" and it became "Beatles".
