"Fleetwood Owen presents the unique opportunity to purchase some of the most significant pieces of rock n' roll history ever to appear at auction - the stage and other fixtures from St. Peter's Church Hall, Woolton, Liverpool. The location for what was to be the most momentous day in the development of popular music - the first meeting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney."

Actually the article is quite long...

Thanks for the article, FT...

All I ask is why don't they leave it there? Wouldn't it be unnatural seeing it, I don't know, in my dining room? eheh

Several months ago, they tried to auction off that stage but no one made a bid. Guess they're trying again.

The stage where John Lennon first met Sir Paul McCartney has failed to sell at an auction of Beatles memorabilia.
McCartney was in the audience when Lennon performed on the stage at St Peter's Church Hall in Woolton, Liverpool, with his skiffle group, the Quarrymen, at a 1957 garden fête.

The wooden stage was expected to fetch up to £50,000 in the sale, held at former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman's west London restaurant, Sticky Fingers.

Other high-profile items, including the Bechstein grand piano played on most of the White Album and on the single Hey Jude, failed to meet their reserve prices.

Fragments of Lennon lyrics were included in the sale

A Baldwin satin ebony grand piano once owned by Lennon, and George Harrison's first guitar were among the unsold lots.

A spokeswoman for auctioneer Fleetwood Owen -which is co-owned by Fleetood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood - said: "A lot of the high-profile pieces didn't seem to reach the buyers this time."

But she said many of the cheaper items had sold for higher-than-expected prices.

She pointed out that acetates estimated at £300 to £400 each had sold for thousands of pounds.

Light fittings from the St Peter's hall sold for £750, but a door and an exit sign failed to reach their asking prices.

Pianos

The Bechstein can be heard on All Things Must Pass, by George Harrison, and on albums by Elton John, David Bowie, Queen and Supertramp.

It also appears on Mary Hopkins's hit single Those Were the Days.

It was expected to sell for between £150,000 and £250,000.

The Baldwin piano was given by John Lennon and his second wife, Yoko Ono, to Sam Green.

Mr Green was a close friend of both John and Yoko, and assisted them in the purchase of art for their private collection.

He was also an executor of Lennon's will.

The piano, which is currently on display in the lobby of a bank in Alabama, was expected to have fetched up to £350,000.

Bidding for Harrison's first guitar reached £25,000, which fell short of the undisclosed asking price.
