Music fans are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Beatlemania with a night
of Merseybeat sounds.
Organiser Sam Leach is putting on the night at New Brighton's Floral
Pavilion, close to the site of the now demolished Tower Ballroom.
He organised early Beatles gig there in the 1960s and says it's where
Beatlemania began.
The first Tower Ballroom gig, which took place on November 10, 1961,
attracted a crowd of 4,100 - one of the largest ever audiences for a British
Beatles concert.
Mr Leach said: "November 10, 1961 was the day Beatlemania was born.
"We had never seen anything like it. People used to go to gigs to dance but
people that night just wanted to rush to the stage and get close to the band.
"I still get a shiver down my spine when I remember that night. The
atmosphere was electric."
Tonight's line-up is set to include original Beatles drummer Pete Best and
Kingsize Taylor, who played at the original gig.
