From the Jewish Telegraph: I thought it was pretty amusing, but I also know that there are GAZILLIONS of Beatles fans in Israel! Maybe I'll have to learn to like Bibi a little better -- prior to this, I honestly couldn't stand the guy!
*************
GUESTS at the UJIA luncheon were puzzled by the late arrival of guest
speaker Binyamin Netanyahu. A security scare? A delayed flight? Nothing of
the sort.
Bibi and his wife Sarah decided on an impromptu visit to Liverpool's Beatles
Story museum. Staff were given a 45-minute warning that their VIP guests
were on the way. The Beatles Story's John Clarke said: ''A member of Special
Branch told us they were coming. When they got here there were lots of
security people with them.''
On leaving the Netanyahus were presented with a set of Beatles mugs. Over
lunch Mr Netanyahu told the Jewish Telegraph that he and his wife are big
Beatles fans and have many of their CDs in their collection.
When asked for his favourite song, he diplomatically replied ''all of them''
but when pushed opted for Penny Lane.
He described the museum as 'pretty good' and explained why he was so keen to
visit.
''The Beatles were immensely talented although they didn't put Liverpool on
the map - it was already there. But they did go on to conquer the world.''
He also revealed that one of the mugs will be be given to Knesset member
Eliezer Samberg of the Shinui Party.
''He is the pre-eminent Beatles fan in Israel,'' he explained. ''His
knowledge of the group is encyclopaedic!''
