Stone Temple Pilots have recorded a version of the Beatles' "Revolution" for a CD single. The proceeds from the sales of the disc will benefit the Twin Towers Fund, set up in the
wake of the September 11 attacks. The release, due November 27 from Atlantic Records, will be an Enhanced CD that includes behind-the-scenes footage surrounding the recording of the song.
STP first unveiled a live version of the rock classic on the October 2 television special, Come Together: A Night For John Lennon's Words And Music. The group entered a New York
recording studio four days later to put the song to tape.
STP frontman Scott Weiland told LAUNCH at the television taping that the band selected the song for the show "about a month and a half ago while we were on tour in Europe."
"We had no idea what was going to happen--the events that would take place in America," he said. "It seems that now it's almost... It's very fitting in a spooky sort of a way. Our real decision for picking 'Revolution' was simply because it rocks."
STP remains on tour in support of its latest album, Shangri-La Dee Da. The group plays tomorrow (November 2) in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
