Are Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr planning to reunite for a Beatles concert in London? That's the scenario, if Cirque du Soleil has its way.

The famed French-Canadian troupe is making plans to build an elaborate entertainment complex in London that will house, among other things, a permanent home for Cirque du Soleil performances, a center for Formula One racing, salons, restaurants and a Beatles museum.

Paul McCartney
Sources familiar with the project say Cirque has gotten commitments from the three surviving Beatles to attend the museum's opening in 2004, as well as perform together at a lavish opening-night party.

But four years is a long time. In the 1960s, the Beatles sang, "When I'm 64." In 2004, Ringo will be 64, McCartney will be 62 and Harrison 61.

Do we even want to see them perform together as geezers?

At Tuesday's New York premiere of the rerelease of the Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night," a few A-list VIPs weighed in with their thoughts.

"I think not," said Virgin Atlantic chairman Sir Richard Branson, who was one of the sponsors of the premiere along with Miramax. "I think memories are better than reality now."

Tim Robbins
Tim Robbins added that, while the Beatles movie was his favorite when he was younger, a reunion seemed out of place in the new century.

"Hmmm, I don't know," said Robbins, shaking his head.

"I don't think it's going to happen," added Steve Van Zandt, who came to the premiere with his wife, Maureen. "Obviously, whatever they do individually or together, is great. I'd love to see George get out a bit more. That'd be nice. But I think they've contributed quite enough. They don't owe us anything."

Peter Boyle thinks a Beatles reunion would be swell.

"I'd be real happy," he said. "I'd love it. I'd be there. I'd be there in a minute."

Reps at Cirque du Soleil headquarters in Montreal did not return calls for comment. Neither did reps for the three Beatles.

I thought that they were going to be playing for the Queen this year or next, any info on that?

" I'm really glad that most of the songs dealt with peace and understanding. There's hardly any one of them that says: 'Go on kids, tell them to sod off, leave your parents.' It's all very 'All you need is love'. There was a good spirit behind it all, which I'm vey proud of. Anyway it were a grand thing, The Beatles"

I think that was supposed to be 2004 as well. Just a bunch of rumours, really.

The Queen rumour is for her 50th Jubilee next year - The C du S rumour sounds unlikely, although I read this on a Beatles news page recently:

'Paul and George spotted in Vegas -- together! (2/25/01) Well, maybe those stories all these years about a rift between Paul and George have been exaggerated: Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on Friday that the two had been together at Las Vegas' Cirque du Soleil's "O" the previous Sunday night, George with wife Olivia and Paul with Heather Mills. They went backstage and signed a couple of autographs, the report said.'

Coincidence?

I think I read somewhere that they also claimed to have a flying saucer with John in it showing up, so....

Good one.

When will this rumours stop?
I'm sure I'm going to die and still be hearing from my position in hell that The Beatles (still on Earth, of course http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif) are going to reunite.

Come on, it won't happen.

Being so south, Chile wouldn't be all that far from Hell as it is... so maybe darkhorse figures the effort going all the way up to Heaven is just not worth it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Yes, they have. But they don't let you listen to their music. You have to be happy listening to Limp Bizkit and Metallica, all mixed up with Barry White, Hanson, the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

I'm close to hell, you know. I've always figured that if I walked two thousand miles south, I would practically be there... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

It's funny though, isn't it, since the further south we go, the colder it seems to be... perhaps hell has frozen over. Perhaps the remaining Beatles WILL now get back together!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I personally don't think there could ever be a Beatles reunion without John.

And Harb, I totally agree with you. The Beatles were four. With only three alive, there are no Beatles. Maybe "Threetles", but no "Beatles". That's for sure...
