A Dakota Steinway piano owned by JOHN LENNON is up for auction at the Hard Rock Café in London on March 27.

Lennon had the piano delivered to his home in 1979; it remained there until his death in 1980.

Following Lennon’s death, Yoko Ono made a promotional deal with Polygram records in order to increase her record sales by giving away Lennon’s piano in the so-called ‘John Lennon/Yoko Ono Piano Giveaway Contest’.

The competition forced 70,000 fans to buy a copy of Yoko’s album and in the process gave them a chance to own the instrument. The final winner of the piano went on to sell it to a private collector.

Other items to be auctioned off include, Lennon’s limousine, two handwritten Jim Morrison poems, an upright piano belonging to a young Elton John and various Beatles and Rolling Stones items.

I wonder if this is the same piano that is on display at the Rock Hall. The one I saw there was the one from the Dakota as well. I do know that the Lennon exhibit will be in London sometime this year.....so maybe so!
