How cool is that?!! Its now stayed at #1 for two more weeks than even Rubber Soul and Revolver and spent as much time atop the charts as Magical Mystery Tour. Enjoy it while you can Beatlefans, for the time being they have bragging rights as the top selling act of both the second and third millenium!

Just for you to know: I live in Chile. We seem to be very beatlemaniac here too: despite the "1" CD arrived here two weeks later than its US releasing (which made it arrive together with Backstreet Boys' "Black & Blue" album), it has been the biggest-selling CD in all the record stores since December 10th. I believe that's about nine or ten weeks at #1. And I can't remember any album being so popular. (Not even the Backstreet Boys' ones).

This is fabulous. New people are discovering The Beatles. Their lives are about to change. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/cool.gif

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like "1" is going to stay at #1 long enough to challenge Sgt. Pepper. I've noticed that most of the mainstream media seem to really dislike the fact that a bunch of old men (their view not mine) are outselling America's beloved teeniebopper bands. They've been waiting for someone to knock them out of the top spot so that they can continue writing shallow fluffy reports about our generation's insipid idols. Thank goodnes Jennifer Lopez is releasing her latest offering this week. Let the media frenzy begin. Someone has to save the universe from the evil grip of a band old enough to be my parents. Why if the Beatles stay there any longer, my generation might actually begin to be inbued with a modicum of culture, taste, and intelligence. We all know that there is just no room for that antiquated way of thinking!

Totally agree with you. But "1" is still on top of the charts here in Chile. (Everywhere except on one particular record store where the Backstreet Boys returned to #1).

Let the media think what they want to think. You can't cheat on people. They actually know what is good music (believe it or not, the sales of "1" have demonstrated that fact), and that's why (as someone said in this same discussion forum), "All Things Must Pass", except The Beatles.

(Sorry about the one who said it, I don't remember his/her name). http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

I forgot something:

the new Beatles album "1" spent 9 consecutive weeks at Number One in the UK Album chart. This was the longest consecutive stay at #1 since the Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" managed 12 consecutive weeks from December 1985 to March 1986!!!

Madonna`s "The Immaculate Collection" and the Eurythmics "Greatest Hits" also spent 9 consecutive weeks at the top (in 1990 and 1991)

Just to say that "1" is still at #1 in Chile. I read in a local newspaper that it has sold more than 3.2 million copies worldwide. I still think that's a great thing! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/cool.gif

Go where? I just meant they sold more records than Him. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I am interested though - and nothing more - in the comparison between the number of Bibles sold worldwide (since the Bible is the world's best-selling book) and the number of Beatles records/albums. Not to make a point or anything, just purely for comparison. I think it'd be interesting.

If you want to start with that, just think that the Bible was the first book ever printed, so it has been "in the market" for about 500 years. If The Beatles can come close to its sales, they could eventually become the biggest business ever made (OK, maybe along with sex and drugs http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif), since they've been around for just 30 or 40 years.

In addition, Bible sales are mere estimates. (Records were not kept until fairly recently.) But NW is right, it would be interesting to compare.
