Anyone catch episode 10 of Ken Burns' "Jazz" last night on PBS? They had a short segment near the begining on the Beatles. It wasn't very complimentary either. The way singer Abby Lincoln was describing them it sounded as if they were part of a conspiracy unleashed on the world by the white man in order to stifle the spreading popularity of jazz artists. (So I guess we can't be expecting any cover versions of "Yesterday from Ms. Lincoln anytime soon?) The film also took great pride in noting how Louis Armstrong knocked the Beatles out of the top spot on the charts with "Hello Dolly" in '64. Regardless, it was still cool to see them being not only the only Rock N' Roll artist mentioned in the entire program, but to see footage of their arrival at JFK included in the film.
