TV Guide to feature Beatles on cover (11/3/00) TV Guide's issue on the stands Monday (Nov. 6) will feature the Beatles on the cover. Actually, four covers, as four separate covers will have the Fabs on each of them. A fifth cover, featuring the White Album, will only be available by mail. Here's TV Guide's press release (thanks to Rick Glover of Beatlefan):

*On Newsstands Monday, Nov. 6*
TV GUIDE PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE FABULOUS FOUR-JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE AND RINGO WITH FOUR BEATLES COLLECTOR'S COVERS AND AN EXCLUSIVE ONLINE COLLECTOR'S COVER RESEMBLING THE POPULAR "WHITE ALBUM"

"All you need is……. " The Beatles. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of John Lennon's death, TV Guide pays tribute to the British superstars who continue to influence generations of music fans with four separate collector's covers featuring John, Paul, George and Ringo. To celebrate what TV Guide is dubbing "Beatles Week", TV Guide is also introducing online the first ever exclusive collector's cover resembling the popular "White" album-a tribute to the Beatles' 1968 hit LP The Beatles A.K.A "The White Album." The four collector's covers and exclusive online cover will be available on newsstands and in the TV Guide Store (http://www.tvguide.com/store) respectively beginning Monday, November 6th.

Despite its simple cover, "The White Album" has stood the test of time and this special "White" cover commemorates a rock group that shaped musical history. The TV Guide Store will offer 10,000 limited editions of the TV Guide "White" cover issues. 1000 of these issues will be part of box sets, which will include one "White" cover, the four collector's covers of the Beatles and The Beatles 1 CD. Adding to the authentic look of this cover are serial numbers (1-10,000) on the spine similar to those that appeared on "The White Album." Issues numbered 1-1000 will be part of the box sets. The "White" cover is being produced on UV coated paper stock and for the first time ever, rather than being printed, the TV Guide logo will be embossed, along with the date and cover story title "The Beatles 2000."

Inside the issue, Beatles fans will find guidance to upcoming Beatles projects (a TV special, a new CD), an interview with beloved Beatle Paul McCartney, and an essay by Rolling Stone writer Anthony DeCurtis on why the Beatles still fascinate music lovers 30 years after the band's breakup. In next week's issue, TV Guide also catches up with several legendary music figures and gets them to dish on a sampling of Beatles No. 1 hits:
Rod Stewart on "Get Back": "On my last American tour, I did 'Get Back.' I loved singing it, the band loved playing it, and the audience got right into it. When I go out on tour again in May, perhaps I'll attempt 'Hey Jude.' God bless you, John, wherever you are."

Dick Clark on "She Loves You": "I had two friends who owned Swan Records, and they asked me to play 'She Loves You' on "American Bandstand." It only got a 73 or 75 on 'Rate-a-Record,' which wasn't great. If the record had sold 50,000 copies, [Swan Records] would have had the rights to the Beatles ad infinitum. The record didn't sell 50,000 copies, so they dropped them. Years later, I asked [Swan], 'Why didn't you buy the 50,000 copies?' They said, 'Because we thought we had a stiff.'"

Patti LaBelle on "Yesterday": "I liked 'Yesterday' so much I put it in my show. It [represented] hope to me [when it was released] and it still does-because yesterday I never thought that I would be going through a divorce, but I am. But [the song] is not sad; it's hopeful. It always meant something to me, but now it means something different."

Ray Charles on "Something": "'Something' was written for me, but somehow the sheet music got lost and it never got to me, so the Beatles finally went ahead and recorded it themselves. I've recorded many of their songs, but my favorites are 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Yesterday.'"

here is a picture: http://www.geocities.com/steffieweffie/tvg940209999-s.gif

It will cost $49.99

pre order it here: http://www.whatshotnow.com/whnjsp/super/tvguide2/index.jsp?ProductKey=13344&BrandKey=3697&MetaCategoryKey=14

$49.99 is a little steep though. Don't think I will be buying the set. Maybe I can find the Limited White Album cover in stores.

My subscription copy came with George on the cover. Well, about 3/4 of George. Why must they blank out a space for the address label, I much preferred it when they had the easy peel off label.

maybe you can get the picture, if it is an interesting one. Sometimes out here you just have to e-mail to the paper to get it.
