i'm going to the hall of fame next month to see the lennon exhibit. just curious to see what eveybody thinks about the glasses (and the clothes) being shown there. i don't know what to think. it kind of freaks me out! have the clothes been washed? is the real blood still on there? or is it fake? what's up with that? let me know!

I don't beleive they have been washed.
The glasses were on Yoko's Season Of Glass LP.

i guess i'll just have to hide my eyes when i get to that part of the exhibit! i also heard that yoko set up a white phone that has a line directly linked to her home or office or whatever. she makes one call a day to that phone & one of the "lucky" visitors gets to have a little chat with her. i don't know how thrilled i'd really be to talk with her but, i do think it's kind of a cool idea.

I think it's another example of Yoko's twisted idea of art imitating life. She wants you to feel the finality to John's life as she, herself experienced it.Brilliant, but tacky, nevertheless.I think John himself would have stood behind her on it."Mother knows best......"

You will seriously have to cover your eyes.
I know that if I saw those things I would be so traumatised.
I really think an exhibit like that is going beyond general interest - I think that it's cruel and in very very very bad taste.
If I was the "lucky" one at the phone I might tell Yoko that as well!!

It may seem tacky, but I feel it to be appropriate.
Similarly, here in Detroit(at Henry Ford Museum) is the actual car in which JFK died. I've never heard any Kennedy fanatics consider it sick to see the car.

Personally the thing that gets me is that there is actual blood involved. Is Kennedy's car splattered with his blood? If it was I'm sure some of his fans would have a thing or two to say about it. I don't know - maybe it is. It could just be me - I could just be odd thinking that there is something a little bit creepy about that.
I think that there must be more appropriate things to display than unwashed blood stained clothes.

no, i disagree. john would have found happiness even w/out yoko. he might have been even happier. i think she's done a great job by maintaining his legacy but, i don't REALLY believe he was as happy as some would like to imagine. she was so controlling-but he obviously thought he needed some sort of control in life.he probably did but...i think life could have been little more normal for him w/out her.sorry...don't anyone be mad-it's just a "thought".

Jami, I agree. She was the one for him at the time, but if she wasn't there, someone else would have been. She is a woman, not a savior. To hear Pete Shotton (John's bud) tell it, she was a control freak and tried to keep John to herself by alienating him from his friends.

I think that to exhibit the glasses and clothes that John died in is a clear violation of human decency. To display such a vivid depiction of the loss of a life is sick. These items are not ordinary entertaining celebrity possessions. These are the very garments that a human being took their last breath in. The insensitivity of the situation disgusts me.

Jon's glasses were on Yoko's Season of Glass LP sleeve in 1981,so I have seen photos of the glasses in the past. maybe in a way, this will, after 20 tears bring closure to all concerning John.
As I noted,I saw the actual car JFK was assassinated in,while it saddens me thinking of Camelot Ended,I don't feel it wrong that the car or John's clothes are on display,we must accept that neither John will be back.

Tim, that is a different circumstance entirely. For starters, the entire nation watched JFK's assassination. The blood was also cleaned out of the car. John Lennon, however, was murdered with few people around, and none of his garments have been cleaned.

I think it captures a moment.
I imagine (apt word) that if we saw these glasses, we'd be very sad, it would trigger a lot of emotion. Maybe that's the message.
Is that so bad?
I think it's better than a statue.

But the thing is a lot of emotion can be triggered from other stuff - listening to John's music, hearing what he once said or even looking at pictures. The message in these things I think is a lot more pleasant and tasteful than looking at blood splattered items.
Each to their own I guess - maybe some people would like to see that stuff. I don't want to be too negative or narrow minded about it because I'm sure that some people would find such an exhibit interesting and moving. I, however, would rather look at other things and get emotional.

I've just read this article, and I think it's twisted that somebody actually defiled John's clothes by covering them with fake bloodstains. Was this for 'realism', or exploitation?
If Yoko did this, then I'm very disappointed at her for the simple reason that it's sick.
I'm sure there'd be a similar outrage if the knife that Mick Abram used to try and kill George with came up on auction.

okay......oh..my..God!!!!! the lennon exhibit was the single most amazing thing that i have ever experienced! if you are a lennon lover as i am, you have to go. the exhibit had me go through every emotion possible...anger, happiness, sadness, you name it! clothes were there, artwork, report cards, guitars, piano, handwritten lyrics, his bed from the dakota, and yes...the blood stained glasses! the never opened bag of his belongings given to yoko from the police was there also. i know a lot of you have really mixed emotions about all that....i did too! i really had a hard time walking up to it. i had to! i really did! something made me do it! it made me really teary eyed-but it was something i needed to see. anyway, it was incredible! so many things were there that i haven't even mentioned. we were there before the hall opened so my husband could broadcast his radio show from there....so it was really quiet. i walked up to the last floor of the exhibit by myself. it was the lyric room....very eerie...i know his spirit was up there with me!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/shocked.gif i swear it was! so, it is something that will stay with me forever. please try and go! for those of you who live in england, or anywhere near...it's going to london in september 2001. there's more to know, so just ask away!

Tim, seeing a picture of them and eyewitnessing them first-hand are two entirely different things. Some people see a picture as just that, a picture. Others read into the picture for the story.
To see something first-hand, your memory is jogged by the events that are associated with it. Remember, it's not just a pair of glasses.

Clearly everyone's got their own opinion... I do think, however, that a lot of people who go to the display and who are against his glasses/clothes being showed, will still 'look' at them. It's like passing a car accident, you might be sickened by it, but you'll still look. Everyone's a voyeur, whether they think they are or not. The shock-value of seeing something like that would just hit you before you even had a chance to think, it's intriguing. Recently we had a murder here where the blooded body was shown on the front cover of the local paper. Whether or not this was against ethical and moral journalistic standards could be argued til the cows come home. There was such a public outcry over this unlike anything ever before. The thing was, that paper sold more copies than any preceeding it... a lot of people bought two, even three copies. It's the 'shock' factor once again - it sells, and draws people.

It is no different than going to Washington and seeing the bed Lincoln died in,or to Chicago to see the chair Lincoln was shot in at Ford's theatre,or here in Detroit(cleaned up) the car JFK was killed in.
is it in bad taste? No more than sya Guernica by Picasso, which depicts one of the most horrible battles of the Spanish Civil War.
I don't find John's glasses as horrid as say the Confederate Flag(a symbol of racism as much as a Nazi flag).I find it in better taste than some of the Skinhead art I see glorifing Hitler.
What I'm saying is it drives home the madness of gun violence and the absurdity of the 18th century archaicness of the right to bear arms.
