Stuart Sutcliffe was his name. He attended art college with John and became best friends with him. After a pub fight in which Stuart was kicked in the head, he joined the band as bass guitarist. Then the band went off to Hamburg to play, and Paul was complaining that he was a much better bass guitarist then Stuart. Paul wanted him out, but John said that if Stu went, then he went. Luckily, he never took that threat seriously. Then Stuart met Astrid, who was girlfriend to Klaus Voorman at the time. Soon Stuart was with Astrid, and, in time, Stuart quit the Beatles to stay in Hamburg with Astrid. Stuart then began complaining of severe headaches, and, on April 10th, 1962, the day before the Beatles were due to go to Hamburg for one last time, he died of a massive brain haemmoridge. Klaus is better known as the artist who designed the cover for Revolver, and played bass guitar on various solo efforts by the lads after they had split up.

A brilliant film to watch which shows the Beatle life of Stuart is called, Backbeat. It is really good but does contain nudity and strong language.

If you ever get the chance to see a Beatles tribute band called, 'Backbeat' then go, as it's the band that was in the film of the same name.

The soundtrack to Backbeat is half decent also. Beatle rock and roll cover tunes like Please Mr Postman and Slowdown done with a raveup rock style by studio players with DaVE Groel on drums.

i thnk thats what happened during a brawl at a club or outside of it, i forget. It's so sad that stu died. He and astrid would have been so happy together.
