Apples and apples - Apple Inc. files for trademark for Beatles Corp Apple logo
March 14, 2011 - Apple Inc., the computer company, has filed two trademark applications for the two green apple logos that have long been associated with Apple Corps, the Beatles company. The computer company has applied for both the whole apple as well as the cross-cut apple image.

Not again. Not more Apple vs Apple, after finally getting the Beatles and Apple Records on iTunes.

"The trademark applications uncovered today is a continuation of that process to ensure that Apple is in control of the trademarks.... Both times the cases were settled with a lot of cash, and the last one came with the transfer of trademarks."
Can someone explain to me why Apple Computers ended up with the right to "control" the Apple Corps trademark as a result of the iTunes settlement? Isn't Apple Corps still a viable entity? :thinker:

I too, am confused, just because they are selling Beatles songs on I-Tunes, does not mean they own the artist or their company, does it????? I am sick of Apple Inc. trying to rule the world  their not that good!

Gotta disagree with you there... they ARE that good, imho... :wink2: But we definitely agree on this whole thing not making sense or just not feeling "right."
I just want the Beatles/Apple Corps to outright own everything that rightfully belongs to them... logos, photos, publishing, etc.

Kind of makes you think of the Apple of Discord from Greek mythology.

Why does Apple need to do that? (the computer Apple I mean) Its not like you cant tell them apart. Apple computer is the graphic of an apple with a bite out of it and Apple corps is a picture of a green apple.

Apple Corps is still it's own entity and has absolutely nothing to do with Apple Inc aside from having their music on iTunes and the settlement of the name dispute. What happened with the dispute is Apple Corps is basically just paying Apple Inc to be able to use the "Apple" part of the name - at the moment the agreement is nothing more than that.

Thanks for the explanation! But I'm more confused now than ever... why would Apple Corps have to pay to keep its name when they were FIRST? :thinker:

Because even though they were first, Apple Inc is undisputedly the most known of the two companies. In the end, though, who knows - it was an agreement both companies came to for some reason or another (including their various legal battles over the years).

I used this case as an example in my business law class of a ruling I didnt quite understand or agree with. And I still dont really. I used the reasoning that most jurisdiction goes with who was there first.
