Hmmmmmm...... well, let me think...... I don't think 4thGenFan meant that very seriously, because she knows that she's sworn quite a bit on here, and not really gotten in trouble for it. So I think she was teasing a little with you, Ward. I'm not really offended by it, I say it's okay, but Jerry might not think so. I dunno, I'll ask him.

I think I will have to agree with you 4thGenFan. John felt trapped in his marriage and wanted to sample everything in the candy store full throttle. Paul was unattached and probably just talked about it more because of that. George and Ringo? I am sure that they didn't have any problems in that department either. Ringo seems like he might be too shy to talk about it and George likes his privacy.

Yeah, I've read in several books how Paul says that John was more faithful than people think he was. I mean, he wasn't by any means faithful, but Paul said there were so many times where they'd all hook up with the chicks, and John would go back to his room. I still say I'd be hookin' up with John, though!

Yep, Paul probably got more "birds." But I'd choose John. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I didn't know that Paul said John was more faithful than people think (not that he was *completely* faithful--we all know he certainly wasn't). People or the Beatles themselves probably exaggerated on how many girls they had and even how much drugs they took (1000 acid trips? Could be true...but you never know.)

There is nothing hypocritical about respecting privacy regarding one's intimate life (meaning sex life). Naturally, we, the world at large find the Beatles, their life experiences and the influences that shaped their careers interesting, but their sex lives are in a separate category. That is, I think, something best kept private and I really see no relevance that has on anything else. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/nono.gif

First off, 'hypocritical' is not spelled 'hippocritical.' Sorry, had to mention that.
As for the topic, I see no problem with it. It asks for no details, descriptions, or any other objectionable material. It approaches the subject in a mature manner and I think that we are all able to handle such a discussion responsibly.
And for the record, I certainly believe that John had the most "experience."

Guilty as charged. We ALL do. I love reading Beatle biographies. This thread reminds me of a song -- "Every Little Thing." As for omitting lurid descriptions, I can live with that. I'm not offended. It's just that I have always believed that one's sex life is private and privacy concerning that part of a person's life was to be respected. That's just my opinion.
What PennyLane said about keeping this mature (and I DON'T mean turning this thread into an adult rated topic) and serious is valid. However, I really didn't care for the terms Ward used to express that sentiment. I didn't like the expressions he used to describe intimacy, but that's only my opinion. I felt the terms used were a tad crude.
When I think of the heading for this forum and this thread, I can't help but think of how a propos this topic is under this forum heading. I guess in this case the forum heading is a double entendre.

I hope I don't live to regret having 'my two bobs worth' on this topic. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/afraid3.gif
The Beatles, especially George and Ringo, opened this subject up in the Anthology. Contrary to the general trend of the comments above, John and Paul are more silent on the subject. To be honest it is difficult to fully discuss the Beatles without mentioning - sex, drugs, religion and politics. (Those girls pushing against the wire in the picture above weren't thinking about what chords the Beatles had used in their songs were they?) These subjects are all controversial, but if discussed in a mature, calm and rational fashion can be very interesting.

Wow, o.k. originally I used the wrong word...sorry. But this topic seems just a little to liberal for some of the people responding. However consider the fact that nobody seems to mind delving into any other aspect of the Beatles personal lives, so lets not be hippocritical with the "it's nobodys business" type response. Thanks to all those who backed me up on this one. BY THE WAY, I THINK RINGO WAS THE LUCKIEST IN THIS DEPARTMENT, BEING THAT HE WAS THE MOST POPULAR BEATLE IN THE STATES.

I think that depending on the time and the place, they were all about as bad as each other in that they each had a far more than fair amount of groupies. I thought I read somewhere that Ringo got a very large percentage of the action but come on! Each and everyone one of them was off having a bit of lovin' on the side at just about every opportunity.
There was a documentry on here a few years back when it was 30 years since they had visited New Zealand and it sounds like they got up to plenty of rompy-pompy down here. There was an interview with one of the guys who was on the door at the hotel they stayed at here in Wellington. He said that he had never seen anything like it and every 20 minutes or so Neil or Mal would come down and select another four girls to go up and join them while showing the door to the previous four who were carrying bed sheets declaring who had just been on them with them...this happened over and over well into the night. He said that if a band came here now and did it, they would never get away with it.
Hmmmm. Sounds like they enjoyed sampling a little bit of Kiwi.

Let's not misquote me Beatlebangs1964, I only used one supposedly incorrect term and it was an innuendo one at that. As for the title heading, the "s" word is not a dirty word nor do I think that word really needs to be hidden from children. Look at all the violence that we let them watch on T.V. and yet "s.." is so taboo I can't even right it here. I do think your being hypocritical due to the fact that you decided freely to enter into it and picked it out from hundreds of others that you could have responded to instead. Don't enter if you don't like the ride.

Jun 16, 2001, 01:46 PM
I'd hate to see this turn into an argument, so let's not heat this up too much. I would like to say, though, that choosing a term that may not have been the most discrete cannot be mistaken for immaturity. And, in all reality, not discussing this aspect of the Beatles' lives is not safeguarding their privacy. The intimate lives of all four band members have been described in detail within scores of biographies. Therefore, ending this discussion on account of their privacy is somewhat pointless. If anyone is offended by such a conversation, they need not participate.

Some are obviously keen to have a 'go' at this subject, but 'where do we go'?
As George is my particular study, I'll start there. In 'Cockamamie Business' he tells us that the 'business' robbed him of his virginity. In the Anthology he tells us in detail all about 'that' on page 54. Everyone says George is such a private person but he seems quite cheerful about telling us all about 'that', and if it is in Anthology I think we have their permission to talk about it. I don't think he would appreciate such detailed discussion about 'now' - but up 'til 10 years ago he was dropping some pretty solid hints (for those who read his lyrics) in his songs.

This was while John was married to Cynthia ..... when they weren't touring, John would go back to Kenwood, watch tv and read the paper, and Paul and the rest of them were out partying ..... especially Paul. Hey jami, paul did seem to have quite the swinging london time around '66-'67, and I'll give him second place, but if you listen to interviews with Ringo, he seems to be the most "I'll do that" and experimental of the beatles. Compound that with the legend that he was the most popular beatle in the states (ugly duckling syndrome) which has their largest audience, I'll stick with Mr. Starkey. Due to his supposed dabbling in the "lady of the evening trade", I'll give george 3rd, and John a distant 4th due to his domestic situation in the mid-late 60's.

No qualms about his wife running off with his best friend--and then having sing backing vocals on Bye Bye Love!!

See I think that this is a very valid topic. I was a pre-teenager in the mid-sixties, and I know that the attitude of The Beatles and other sixties figures of influence, like Mick Jagger, Twiggy, Mary Quant and so on, really opened up the subject of sex for discussion, I mean birth control was unknown in the early sixties, and for anyone to have sex in those days was a real risk, opening up the discussion meant that at least people could be informed and fight for birth control to be made available. I think that The Beatles open attitude to sex and sexuality, including their tolerance of Brian Epsteins sexuality, did a lot more more forthe liberation of the sexes from the '50s attitudes that were largely formulated by Church and 'The Moral Majority' than they have been given credit for. So, if the boys were making as much hay as possible, at least it did make a difference to the social order, good on ya lads!
Oh, and I couldnt possibly choose between Paul & George!!.

There are very strong rumours that George had an affair with Maureen, and if memory serves there is also some evidence that she did the bold thing with Paul as well, so maybe the biggest swinger of all was Mo!

I still can't believe that George & Maureen story. I mean that should have been a thing that Ringo shouldn't forget... But then again he wasn't quite a good husband with Maureen eihter...

From the same show they said George had an affair with her... I'm just guessing anyway. All four of them had very intense lives...

I don't think I want to even guess who got the most action, but there is something that's always surprised me that seems to fit into this topic. Isn't it amazing that with all the girls they must have been with that there aren't a million tell-all books and articles about "My night with Ringo" or whatever? It's always boggled my mind that you hardly ever hear any first hand stories from any of the girls from back then. Did they have to sign some sort of non-disclosure agreement? Were they paid off? Was it just so shocking back then that they were ashamed to talk about it? I wonder.

There is a book called Watching the Beatles by one of the Apple Scruffs, who had a crush on George.
There she describes that she has at least one night with George but even there, it is just hidden somewhere in the book and does not get much attention.

I think I know which book you're talking about. It's called "Waiting for the Beatles" by Carol Bedford. I found the book at Beatlefest two years. That book is out of print, so it was quite expensive. Anyway, I don't recall reading about a "night" with George. Carol and George only kissed once. My friend told me that in Geoffrey Guiliano's book, he said that they spent a night together. I told her GG wasn't right and read her the part about the kiss in Carol's book. I really like that book. You can tell those girls really cared for the Beatles (even though I wouldn't have agreed on some of the things they did) but still you can tell Carol wasn't just cashing in.

Sorry FPSHOT, wasnt ignoring you, I havent logged on for a while, really buzy, you know how it is, then the George thing hit the fan, and I must admit I kinda thought serious thoughts there for a while, and got distracted, anyhow, as has been previously answered, as this is a family board, all kiddies please look away now, Suffice to say that 'do the bold thing' (not BALD!!!) is a Dublin expression for mmmmm, having sex. Simple really.

Yes I have Carol Bedford's book also. For the most part I thought she handled it very sensitively and enjoyed reading it, but I would still bet George hates it. I think George has been very lucky that people he has come to know have usually kept quiet about it. Maybe something in his personality brings out the best in people and they feel very loyal to him.

Yikes! Did I say that? I just had a quick look at the book to remind myself what it was about. She told the whole story probably plus a bit more. Remember she's trying to sell a book here. Still she didn't say she (you kiddies had better avert your eyes again) slept with him and I did enjoy reading it. She said some nice things about him and you come out of the book loving him. And I'm still going to bet George hates it.

I love george, but he can tend to be the snarkiest of the Beatles, especially in the last ten years or so. He's slammed a lot of bands out there and while some deserve it, others that he mentioned were actually quite good. But george is still up there in my books. The poor guys been through a lot lately.

Great comment in my opinion
Rellevart-- aside from the book(s) mentioned
prior, I don't know of any documentation in
this area myself... but then again, times
were a bit differant back in the 60's, and
in some ways, maybe things considered more
sacred then are a bit less sacred these days-
(at least to some). Meantime, I just want to
share that even though I don't really have a
problem with this topic, the way I would have
worded it in the asking, would probably be
to substitute the word "laid" for "slept
with"-- to me, that's probably more "Beatle-
sque"--(at least in terms of more closely
defining the times back then). And in answer
to the question, in my opinion-- it was probably Paul--(if not, I'd say Ringo-http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
