I'd like to take a little time to raise my glass to the Jani Foundation.

Susan and Michael Schofield started the Jani Foundation to secure help, hope and appropriate treatment for families coping with loved ones with severe mental illnesses. Their daughter, Jani, now 8 has an especially severe form of schizophrenia. Jani is a gifted child and now, because of her and the Jani Foundation, many people are finding hope when they didn't know it existed.

The Jani Foundation is also alert to the broken mental health system and to reforms in Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs). This organization is very resourceful in using the media to get their important and much needed messages out there. Many places with a history of abusing clients hope they will be sued so they can settle out of court and keep the case under wraps. That is not really helpful in the long run. Abuse continues and more often than not, goes unknown and unreported.

That's where the Jani Foundation comes in. They have worked tirelessly to turn that ship around and replace secrecy and abuse with hope and reforms. If ever there was a cause I deeply support, it is this one.

Michael Schofield is working on his book about Jani. Jani has been seen on "Oprah!" in October 2009 and on 20/20 as well.

I sincerely hope people will reach into their hearts and check out the Jani Foundation and beat on the drum for people to step up the plate for this family and others in their shoes. They are going places and doing a lot of good, so this is a way of "paying it forward" by offering a helping hand and demonstrating compassion.

The book about Jani is scheduled to come out in March. I just received an update that the publication date has been moved up.

I am encouraging and inviting people to get over to the Jani Foundation page on Facebook. They are doing a lot to heal our mental health and education systems. They are making things happen for the better. Please come join us.

Jani, Becca Stancil and Brenna & Ailish Wohlenberg were featured on a special 20/20 last night. Brenna & Ailish have a younger sister, Kiernan who dodged the mental illness bullet.

Jani has been making improvement, but her condition is quite severe. Becca has improved tremendously once she was started on Saphris. She's an attractive girl who is growing up as a tween who has gotten through the worst of her illness, thanks to Saphris.

This is a very serious matter.

The Schofields, whose daughter Jani has severe psychoiss are being stalked and harassed by people who don't even know them on SpAmazon. This thread is very worrisome and people who know the Schofields are encouraging people to sign this Petition to have the offending Schofield bashing, libelous threads removed. This is very serious and the Schofields have reason to feel they are in danger. You can always sign anonymously.

The book January First: A Child's Descent into Madness & Her Father's Struggle to Save Her is currently scheduled to be released in August. I am worried about how a cadre of crackpots have been stalking the Schofields and spreading BS and lies about them on YouTube.

The Schofields have done a lot to promote awareness of mental illness in children and May is Mental Health month. They have brought many families together who have children battling mental illness. They have many volunteer watchdogs who scout out RTCs and other programs. They are a group of caring and dedicated individuals who are doing everything they know to do to a) ban stigma; b) raise awareness and c) make changes and hopefully find good answers for people in their shoes. This is something that is very serious and I wanted people to be aware of this.
