I'd like to take a little time to raise my glass to the Jani Foundation.
Susan and Michael Schofield started the Jani Foundation to secure help, hope and appropriate treatment for families coping with loved ones with severe mental illnesses. Their daughter, Jani, now 8 has an especially severe form of schizophrenia. Jani is a gifted child and now, because of her and the Jani Foundation, many people are finding hope when they didn't know it existed.
The Jani Foundation is also alert to the broken mental health system and to reforms in Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs). This organization is very resourceful in using the media to get their important and much needed messages out there. Many places with a history of abusing clients hope they will be sued so they can settle out of court and keep the case under wraps. That is not really helpful in the long run. Abuse continues and more often than not, goes unknown and unreported.
That's where the Jani Foundation comes in. They have worked tirelessly to turn that ship around and replace secrecy and abuse with hope and reforms. If ever there was a cause I deeply support, it is this one.
