Hello everyone,

Go to the link below to look at the pictures from my trip to New York last fall.

They mostly center around John and this was the only time I have ever been there.

My daughter made the webpage for me! Didn't she do a great job?

Hello Jami,

Thanks. I will tell her. The pictures have been sitting on a shelf since then. I finally bought a scanner and emailed them to her. I did the captions for the pictures and the text for the index. She did all of the technical webpage making and chose the "Yellow Submarine" font. I didn't tell her to do that she just chose the font and it works out great.

Cool site, Catswalk!! I loved your pic of the brownstone stoop -- I live on the Upper West Side (about a mile north of the Dakota) and that's what my block looks like! (I live in a highrise, though, not a brownstone.)

So...anyone coming to NYC? Want a tourguide/Beatlebuddy to show you around? I've played tourguide to more friends from out of town than I can count -- but I LOVE to show my town off, so...

GREAT site, Catswalk, your daughter did a lovely job setting it up!!

Yes, Tim, the Unisphere is in Flushing Meadow Park, not far from LaGuardia and Shea Stadium and within sight of the National Tennis Center. It's pretty cool up close -- I have some pictures from when I was in college of some guys I knew in a rubber raft in the fountain under the Unisphere! They nearly got arrested!! But it sure was funny... There's also a nice zoo in that park, and the Hall of Science (another leftover from the 1964 World's Fair) and the Queens Museum, which has the "Panorama of New York," a miniature diorama depicting the entire city, buildings and all -- very cool!

I had to take a picture of that stoop. The only place I had ever seen anything like that was on Sesame Street!

Tim,

Guess what? I did see the Unisphere! It was really a site to see. I guess I either didn't have any film at that time or I was just too tired to take a picture of it. My boyfriend and I drove out there (Queens area) because I told him I wanted to see Shea Stadium too. We drove from Atlanta to N.Y., talk about a long drive. Sheesh! We went through so many states that I didn't know where I was most of the time!

Hello again HMV,

I have a question for you. We were looking for Shea Stadium and we found what said it was Shea Stadium (wait, seems like it said something else) but, it looked very new and modern. The we saw what looked like the original stadium where The Beatles played. Is Shea going to be replaced and torn down? They can't DO that! Seems like I read somewhere it might be. Do you have an idea what my boyfriend and I saw?

He was "The Driver" because he has been to New York many, many times. I got lost just coming out of the other side of a store!! ha!
He is originally from Alabama, but moved to Wilmington, NC when he got a job at a radio station there. He lived there quite a long time and then moved to Atlanta. I told him he must be crazy to drive in NY! He did it perfectly though. I'm probably getting boring now.......anyway, don't forget to answer my question!

Yes, Catswalk, I can answer your question. Shea Stadium is still there, only now it's painted blue and has neon-lighted pictures of baseball players on the sides. It was refurbished a few years back. The red-brick, modern stadium you saw near it is the National Tennis Center (I think it's also called Arthur Ashe Stadium) where they play the US Open Tennis Tournament. It's right next to Shea.

As of now, Shea is still standing, though there is always talk of tearing it down and building a new place for the Mets to play. They haven't come to any conclusions on that yet, though. But anyway, Shea is still there in the same place it was when the Beatles played there, but it looks VASTLY different because of the refurb.

Hope this answers your question.

BTW, my brother lives in Atlanta, and we drove to Atlanta and back from NYC about a year and a half ago -- LONG drive, yes, but not that bad! I was the driver for most of that...it was exhausting!! But I'd never done it before, and it was also interesting!

I'm glad you liked your trip to my town so much -- I enjoyed Atlanta too!

Luv,
Susan :-)

The Unisphere is a beautiful sight, and it does remind pne that we are all in this world together.

Tim, it's VERY true about all the "Peachtree" Streets, lanes, avenues, roads, circles, drives, etc. It's impossible to get around. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/confused.gif I don't drive to Atlanta. I make sure I have someone else to do it. All the roads are thrown in "Helter Skelter" and make no sense. Plus, they are moved and renamed all the time. I guess that's to keep it interesting. Everyone I know avoids going downtown http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/afraid1.gif but, if they HAVE to it's a carpool situation where the bold driver is bribed! And that's by people that have lived here all of their life. It's not only Peachtree. There are duplicates of many other road names too. I think the term "you can't get there from here" originated in Atlanta!

I don't want to disrespect anyone from Atlanta, but when I was there a year and a half ago to visit my brother, I was pretty scared by the traffic myself! And I live in New York City and drive in Manhattan! I have NEVER seen traffic like I saw in Atlanta -- absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!!! It took us two hours to get from Stone Mountain to where my brother lives (he lives in a 'burb, not in town), the last hour of which was spent less than two miles from his home...because the traffic lights weren't synchronized and NOTHING moved...makes the traffic around here (NYC) look GOOD, let me tell you! I'd never live in Atlanta simply because of the traffic!

Both of you guys are correct about the traffic here! It's terrible and there is no reason for it other than the road people/DOT/or whoever they are, are stupid.

In every other state I have visited, I had no problem navigating the roads. Know why? Because THEY MADE SENSE. I was all over Chicago the only time that I visited and that was by myself! This is probably the only place that a brand new road map is absolutely no help.

Oh well, I try to stay off of the roads as much as possible.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, thanks. I am a Native New Yorker and you know what they say about how you can take a New Yorker out of New York, but you can't apply the inverse property. I'm a New Yorker although I no longer live in New York and seeing these familiar sights made me feel like I was back in the Empire State. New York -- I love it! I miss New York. I miss sailing on the Hudson, access to Beatles' conventions (although I would LOVE to go to the Chicago one), the folk music scene in the Hudson Valley, Tom Chapin, the Clancy Brothers, Pete Seeger, the Hudson River Sloop Singers, picking apples in the autumn and hiking the mountains in Beacon and points central. New York is a beautiful state. It really is. For a New Yorker living 2000 miles away, it's important to have those reminders, to have a way of always connecting with the "home land."

Thank you for sharing those wonderful pictures of the Empire State!

Well Beatlebangs,

Don't cry now! I am so glad that the pictures struck such a chord with you. Nostalgic huh? Kind of bittersweet for you, but maybe you can go back and visit soon!

Love, Catswalk
