View Full Version : Guilty (Beatle related) Pleasures

We all have them. I know we all do. Guilty pleasures. Things we love to do, but would not do indiscriminately for fear of being embarrassed by others. Here are my guilty pleasures:
I JUST love to sing Beatles songs, like everyone here. I just LOVE to watch the "Hard Day's Night" video and act out the parts.
Drinking ovaltine while listening to "She Loves You."
Drawing John Lennon.
When nobody else is in the house, dancing enthusiastically to early Beatles' classics.

Then we will remember things we said today. Yeah.

I LOVE TO DANCE TO EARLY BEATLES TOO!!!! You know, attempt to do that little mobtop shake!!! It's so much fun! Of course, I don't do it when people are around. I also like to pretend to be playing bass and singing Paul's parts while daydreaming about being on stage!!!! Of course, I have terrible stage fright. Oh, also, I draw pictures of the beatles, but I'm not embarassed about it.

What do you mean "guilty" pleasures? Singing and dancing along are just things you do when you listen to them. It goes with the music. Acting out parts from Beatles movies is something I do too!!! It's fun!!!

As most everyone here has said I like dancing like crazy to early Beatles songs. Here are some of my other guilty pleasures:
Watching Help consistently
Involving the Beatles in every school assignment I can
and
when I was younger the Beatles (acting the way they do in the movies) were my imaginairy friends. I would talk to them whenever I was home alone and scared or just when I was bored.

JTAL909,
Instead of polyester pants (is that a guilty pleasure) wear a cool Edwardian collarless suit and some really cool Beatle boots!
Back in middle school, if I was home alone, I'd play some Beatles LPs (stone age CDs) and dance with my hound dog. (She'd let me pick her up and I'd then rock and roll). One time I got caught and boy...did my face turn about 8 shades of red! (I was 14 at the time).
As for the calandar thing...I had 2 Beatles calendars as well for 1997 alone. I bought the 2nd one after January 1st and this once expensive calendar only set me back a buck. I had one for home and one for work.
I, too, buy Beatles' related items. Heck, we're collectors!

I guess my guilty pleasure comes more in the shape of Sir George Martin... I try to create NEW mixes and/or entire albums. Several solo tracks when blended together can sound rather "Beatley"...
I take a snippet of John talking from his "Anthology" set ("What went wrong?" and Ringo answers him "It was my fault!") and then go into a Paul track (like "Every Night")... Very "Let It Be" in nature.
Try to create an Abbey Road medley out of solo material... it takes creative editing!
And yes, I DO have alot of time on my hands, sometimes...

Come on, we KNOW you've got guilty Beatle related pleasures. We ALL do! I just LOVE to sing along with the Beatles and I JUST LOVE that hair thing on the "oooh" part in "She Loves You." My guilty pleasure there is acting out the part along with the Beatles whenever I pop in one of my cool videos.
Tonight I got caught in the act of having some 1964 era fun while watching one of my FAVORITE videos, the one where the Beatles came to America! (Someone walked in on me). I was SO MORTIFIED I wanted to "run and hide." (from "If I Fell). Oh heck, the Beatles sure did have a line for everything!
Now, I never cared that much for "Chains" (the song or the object) and we just voted it off our survivor list on another thread, but Beatle boots are cool! I also love Beatle haircuts! Oh well, that's why we're here!

One of my things is belting out Beatle/Wings tunes while riding my cycle and in the shower. I also took my assignment motebook from school and filled in a Beatle fact for each day so on the 18th of June, it says "Happy Birthday Paul!" ext... And then when I did a school assigment on Linda McCartney, I brought in EVERYTHING remotley related to her or Paul and a stereo and I cooked 3 of her dishes and I procedeed to tell everyone who stopped and looked all about them and the Beatles... I love doing that!

Well I don't know when you went to school but if it was far in the past then now, it's probably because all the people that are teachers now were brought up on the Beatles. Anyone prior to them even teachers in the 80's were "too old" to like the Beatles even if it was just by a year or two.

See that's why the people that taught then were the adults that thought the Beatles were bad, or whatever those people thought. Of course the decline of our civilization might have something to do with the lenience (sp?) of our teachers these days.

Okay...
I probably sound silly but here goes:
I put on headphones and play (either on drums, guitar, or piano) along with the songs - attempting to perfect that little 'ringo' head flip http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/blush3.gif ... I go to just about every Fab Four show I can (the best tribute band i've ever seen - from SoCal) and drag my (one) beatle appreciating friend with me http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/blush3.gif ... continue learning how to play the bass backwards - like paul http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/blush3.gif ... and spend my spare moments mixing and compiling beatles songs on different cd's (for example: top 10 beatle's love songs... etc.)

That doesn't sound silly! That all sounds WONDERFUL! A talented musician...that is a real bonus!
For years I've been trying to master that Ringo hair toss thing. Check out the Beatles each time they do "She Loves You" and NOBODY does a better hair toss than Ringo! (I think the Beatles' hair is beautiful).
This may sound silly.
Last year a woman from my church was collecting donations to take to a sister parish in Mexico. High on her list of needs were toys. I bought mint condition toys for a Beatle song at the local Goodwill. You'll laugh when I confess this, but I got the dolls cleaned up and gave them all cute Beatle haircuts. (Beatle culture should travel, I always say).
The woman who went on the Mexican run last year said everybody's contribution was a big hit, even the Beatle bobbed dolls. (She didn't know I cut and styled their unruly nylon hair into a cool Ringo cut). I smile whenever I think about that.

I beg to differ, HeyBeatle -- I had a VERY cool teacher in High School who was a BIG Beatles fan, and I graduated in 1979...and a couple of other teachers I had also liked the Beatles. True, a lot of them were too old, but I did have a few who were young and hip!

I graduated the same year HMVNipper did and the time I served in high school yielded not one Beatle friendly teacher. Glad those days are over!

Then we will remember things we said today. Yeah.

maybe this isn't really a guilty pleasure, but I feel guilty in saying that my first realization that Lennon and McCartney and Harrison were songwriting geniuses was listening to the soundtrack to the Peter Frampton/Bee Gees movie SGT. PEPPER"S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND. As a teen, I thought that album was the greatest, until I heard The Beatles' true versions of their songs, and I haven't looked back since (well, I did buy the movie on video a few years back, just to see what the appeal was to me back then; I hope I've matured in coolness since then)

I actually want to see this movie, I've seen bits and pieces, but I'd actually like to see the whole thing just for giggles.
