hi, is any one going to the chicago beatlefest or have any of you ever been to a beatlefest i'm trying desperately to go so i just wanted to know what the fests are like.

Yes loretta, I'm going to Chicago's 'Fest - I've gone for the last (eek!) 21 years. I've read in other forums that people are really fed up with the format and the way the organizers treat the attendees and I can't say I disagree with that, but I've always still managed to have a good time. It depends on what you want to do - some people love to sit through the movies, some love the contests, some love the flea market, the impromptu singalongs, hanging out in the video room, or just sitting around by the ugly statue socializing with other likeminded Beatlefans. I guess I recommend it as a social occasion, but don't expect to see anything really rare or pick up any good deals.

I'm going! It's ALOT of fun.I love watching the movies(it's all new to my daughter, which is so cool).Terri Hemmert(WXRT) is an awesome MC and the ultimate Beatles' fan.The flea market has alot of great stuff.I love The Battle of the Bands, best though.

So then they don't have any rare Beatles merchandise? How much do these Beatlefests usually cost to attend?

the one here cost 23.00 in advance and 29 at the door. In the market 2 years ago I saw the original handwritten lyrics for I Am The Walrus on a piece of paper. I didn't have 4 grand on me to buy it though. this year one vendor had a "to do" list written by John Lennon for his personal assistant.
Try www.beatlefest.com (http://www.beatlefest.com) for info.

Yes, definitely!
Ticket prices were somewhere around $50 for a three day pass last year. There is SOME rare merchandise, but most of it is new generation stuff made last week and it's really hard to find bootlegs unless you know someone to direct you to "the room".
StPauly - you're right, Terri is an excellent MC, very knowledgeable and very sincere, and the Battle is one of my favorite parts too!

The battle of the bands is definitely a highlight. I also could not find any bootlegs and only one rareties cd. Plenty of books, the odd rare item, a few autographed albums ($1,000's), original memoribilia for way too much money, and plenty of new merchandise like Rellevart says. Pictures, pins, even beatle boots.

I don't know how it is in NY/NJ, but here, none of the dealers are allowed to sell boots in the flea market (our lovely litigious society...but don't get me started on THAT!), but if you ask around a bit, somebody will eventually tell you "oh...go to room 705"...and then you sneak up there, feeling very James Bond-like...and boom! Tons of very cool videos and CD's! That's always a first night joke with our crowd..."Hey, do you know where 'the room' is yet?" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Loretta10 - If you fly into O'hare airport, the Hyatt has a courtesy bus that will take you to the hotel. The hotel is only about a 5-10 minute drive from the airport. Rellevart and I can give you many helpful hints, if you'd like as we've both been coing to Chicago's Beatlesfest for 20+ years.

To get from O'Hare to Rosemont take the Blue Line El to Rosemont Station, than RTA bus 221 or 223,both of which leve you off near the hotel (roughly 1000 foot walk).

Sorta late on this one...but I'm going to Chicago Beatlefest for the second time this year, after 24 years of attending them in New York. I was at the NY Fest back last month, and it was a great disappointment, unfortunately...the guests were not very exciting, the flea market, as people have said, has nothing to interesting (I didn't buy ANYTHING...) and the hotel in NJ is too small.
That said, though -- the Chicago Fest is MUCH better! The fest itself is the same sort of thing, but the hotel is nicer, the people are friendlier, and there are PLENTY of other things to do besides shop or watch movies or stuff...and yes, Terri Hemmert is probably the BEST Beatlefest MC I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of 'em over the years in NYC.
And yes, it's worth it to find the Bootleg Room if you can!

Hey, Beatlefest! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Can't wait for August... I'll be going on Friday! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I wish I could go longer, but I start school (my last semester!) on Monday. Next year will be different, I'll be able to go all three days. Last year I found the Bootleg room, and the year before that too. The people are very nice there and there is so much to do. I can't speak for the other ones, since I've never been, but Chicago Beatlefest rocks!

I always thought it was fiendish DINGY; I'll have to watch Help! again.
I just watched it a couple weeks ago and discovered there was bonus footage at the end of the tape. It was kinda like finding ten bucks in a pair of old jeans.Or like waking up early ready to fly out the door for work and you realize it's Saturday.Or it's raining the morning of the day you throw a big party and it clears up to be one of the most glorious days in history...sorry, it's the li'tl things ya know.

Not sure who told you that, strawberry, but I think they were putting you on. They wouldn't come within miles of a Beatlefest!
Favorite quote on the subject comes from Mike McCartney when he was at Chicago Beatlefest some years back. He said he'd been on the phone with this brother and told him where he was. Paul's response? "What the hell are you doing THERE??" (amused, not angry)

Yeah, really! I've been going to Beatlefest in NY since 1977, and the closest I've come to a Beatle was Louise Harrison! You might get a Beatle sib or a close Beatle associate, but an ACTUAL Beatle? Nope...not in a million years! My God, they'd be killed by the mob scene! Sorry Strawberry, but someone's putting you on big time! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/bigeyes1.gif

I did hear once that John was interested in attending the New York Beatlefest and asked Mark Lapidos if he could get him (John) in and out safely. Mark's reply - "I can get you in, but not sure if I can get you out." Needless to say, John didn't go.

While I would personally like to see any of 'em (and that includes Yoko and Sean), I do believe it would be wiser if none of them make an appearance at a Beatlefest. Nothing against Lapidos, and I truly enjoyed the one fest I actually got to go to, but it's a mob scene even without the Beatles. I don't think anyone could guarantee their safety with any kind of decent percentage. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

That sounds plausible; John always expressed interest in stuff like that but then backed out...case in point, showing up at Saturday Night Live that time he was with Paul...
I don't think any of them could actually go, nor Yoko and Sean, without causing a complete and utter mob scene! One can dream, though... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
