thanks guys. it's good to know that things haven't changed _that_ much--'dork is still quite good at trying to aggravate people. but i can't jump to any conclusions; i haven't even heard any random and witty comments from our good companion and great seat-warmer colin!

ps: i might be bringing the very lovely rita back with me--i'm doing me best.

it's a peace sign, see? you have five digits (translated to american: fingers), and when you arrange them in such a way, it makes a sign that is universally known as "peace". and that's the way it is.

FYI, that is if anyone is interested, the now-famous peace symbol was made from semaphores. Believe it or not, it comes from the signals for the letters "N" and "D".
Furthermore, those letters stood for "Nuclear Disarmament". http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/shocked.gif

The Peace or V sign, with the front of the hand(i.e. the fingers) showing...
Peace or Victory(as Churchill had doen the sign).
With the back of the hand showing(i.e. no fingers)...
A British/European equivalent of a certain 1 fingered gesrure out here(i.e. The Finger).
In the UK it's also called I beleive "flipping the bird".

Actually, if you think about this, 'flipping the bird' sounds soooooooo American! I have NEVER heard that phrase anywhere in Europe, (or anywhere else for that matter)

It actually means 'go forth & multiply' or F*** O** for the more foul mouthed amongst us, (not myself of course!) and wwould be seen as quite offensive if meant seriously, so beware all you transatlantic and antipodean types, make sure your peace sign is facing the right way, (i.e. palm outwards).

And in the end..

You'll hear it down here, along with any other Americanisms. Though we commonly refer to the one (or two) finger salute as giving someone "the ups".

closed off once again from putting in my two cents, i retreat to my own topic, which was as good as closed anyway. jami has now been proven correct: that although i'm trying to spend more time on the forums, my busy life has not allowed me to be re-accepted as a regular. on the topic of ol' col, i agree completely with jami: we spend entirely too much time mourning his "death," but you must understand that our colin leaving is a devestating blow to our consciences. a good many of us, myself included (yes jami, this was before i became way overobligated and was limited to a few posts a week) came daily onto this forum for hours just to have the funniest man alive lift up our spirits. you don't know how many people have said "thanks len-mc, i was having a horrible day until i signed on and you brightened it right up." no, i'm not trying to restart the colin-mourning, and this is all i have to say on the topic; but i only try to make you understand that we can't just "accept" that col is gone. he is a great man, and undeniably reminiscent of john. we can't simply "move on". he is unforgetable. oh, and shifting gears, if anything in my previous post sounded demeaning or condescending to you, jami, i apologize profusely. that was meant solely for clarificational purposes. i don't want to start any enmity, and i wish to end any and all dissention between members. so jami, are we well met? <extends hand>

I really can't believe this has been brought up again after Jerry has said to shut our beaks about this. I mean, hello?? Is anybody in there?? But yes, all is good and well with you and I, Eppy. NWM was trying to lighten everything up a bit by saying what he said, Eppy. He wasn't trying to be rude by it. Obviously this subject is a very touchy one for some people, NWM included. He and Colin are best mates (I think they still are?) and he, just like a lot of us, are tired of this subject. If he wants to come back, then that would be SUCH a party for those of you who give a flip. Until then, he's not here, so let's get to skippin', and SHUUUUUUT UUUUUP about it!!!!! Actually, NWM, earning friends and winning them amount to the same thing... it's a working relationship much like any other relationship you will ever encounter.

Once, I thought like you do.

That was many, many years ago, and more friends ago than I care to remember. While I still have lots of people I call my friends, there are only a select few that I can turn to in need... And a true friend is there for you in good times, in bad, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, til death you part. Sound familiar? It should. Do all of your friends answer that description? All of mine do not, as I learned much to my increasing dismay as the realities of life and it's tragedies became apparent.

The older I become, the more I realise how little I know. The more I have, the more I realise how little I need. The more I suffer, the more I discover how truly blessed I am.

I can count on one hand the number of true friends I have. And that is five more than I deserve.

There are few people who have real friends more than 5.

Yeah, but I don't think NWM started it, Kat. He was just trying to make light of the situation because it's getting really stupid and boring to hear about.

So working hard to earn a living and winning the lottery are the same thing? I don't think so. You don't make friends overnight. It takes time, and you slowly learn to trust and respect one another, and eventually confide in each other too. There's no instant loyalty, rather you build it up through the times you share together, good and bad.

Yes it does, because it's exactly the same way for me. And in many cases it takes something like an argument to set off a real friendship. I have a lot of true friends on here, and as much as I expect them to be here for me, I expect myself to be here for them. So wrong or right, good or bad, I will stand right beside them wherever and whenever they need.

No they do not, nor did I ever say they did. Everyone will have enemies in life and that's where their true friends will shine. They'll be there every step of the way, in good times, in bad, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, as you said. I do not need some book to tell me how to make friends. I'll write my own pages in life and learn to straighten out the creased ones on my own, and from my own experiences. The very ink I use will be the inspiration and support my true friends will provide, and wherever it happens to run dry they'll be right there to make sure it smooths itself out and continues to flow. And just as you're able to replace the ink inside a pen once it runs out, so too you will have new friends to replace those that move on.

Thank you Jami, precisely. If I can recommend a book of my own for you all here, it would be "Whatsa' Matter, Can'tcha Take A Joke?" by Bea Strickland.

I think this has gone way over the line... But then it allowed Nowhere Man to say some more of his clever thoughts. I also had lots of laughter reading his post, mind you. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif But maybe it's time to close the thread...? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thinker.gif

Jami can move it to "Off The Beatle Track" where it belongs. Whoever feels the need can add to it in there.

here's a beatle-er 'til the end--able to trek through all of that derisive truck and still remain pleasant. good for you! may you be welcomed warmly 'bangs. as for myself, i feel about as welcome here as yoko on a recording day. thanks for putting in a few good words for me for old time's sake, sleepster. so what shall i call this? my post of resignation? works. i may have to drop in and see how much this one gets bashed by mr. i-need-attention over there.

oh yeah, since it would take a few years to fight back all those useless comments from nwm, i'll just tackle the one that seems most important--the "ol' col" thing: does the middle school you go to not include _the catcher in the rye_, nowhere man? or haven't you gotten that far yet?

i'll miss you guys: sleepsie, krista (if you're still there), kat, harb, jer, luce, orig fan, jtal, this/that, anyone else i've missed (sorry if i did; it's past midnight). take it easy.

all my love,

Yes, Eppy, don't leave. Come back when you can, and post when you're able. We're just like any other family here, y'know... getting along just fine one minute, and "Make him stop!" and "She's looking at me!" the next... And much like any other siblings, we pout and huff and puff and kinda lay low til the dust clears, but we come back. And 90% of the time, we have a grand old time here! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif So, don't leave... Please?

What's going on here, girls and boys?? What have I missed?
I'm hoping that some of you have already written to Eppy demanding he stay...this is really sad and I don't understand why this kind of thing has to happen to what is usually such a happy, pleasant group of people!!!

I know that I'm hardly here anymore but I still feel that I have to say DON'T GO EPPY!

Well, I know I surely haven't written to him to make him stay ..... and I surely won't. If he doesn't want to stay then he doesn't have to. I think the reason he feels like Yoko is cause when he posts here, he only posts in this particular forum, and doesn't seem to be interested in the Beatles much (just like Yoko). When he has posted lately, it's all about going off at some of us. I'm not even going to move this topic, I'm closing it. If someone wants to reminisce about something or someone, just head on over to Off The Beatle Track in the topic, "Gosh, Don't You Just Miss...." If you would stay, Eppy, that would be great, if not, I wish you well http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
