My wife and I were walking the dog before (7:15 eastern standard time and dark) and we came around the bend on this Jersey side street and upon a pile of leaves on fire in the street. We were the first ones there and got the people in the house to call the fire dept but we had it put out by the time they got there as the neighbor yanked out a hose.
A little Halloween story. Lenmac, you weren't in the area were you?

Yes, pretty bad! I live near the River Severn, and it has really suffered lately. We've had really bad storms. I couldn't get the train to college on Monday because there were none running. it was that bad.

It's gotten bad down Devon as well. Numerous traintracks were damaged when the ground underneath them were washed away! You're lucky you don't live down here LenMc otherwise you'd have to wat for at least a week before the trains run again.

Luckily, I live on top of a large hill, and there ain't any rivers nearby. The worst that can happen is the bottom layer might get about an inch of water inside, so I moved all my Beatle collection to the upstairs of the house.

And no, although I was a bit of a pyromaniac when I was about 5, the phase has diminished enough to ensure safety.

The same hold true for those in Louisiana. It seems that whenever 1" of snow falls, they begin to shut down practically all the bridges and close the schools.

I really don't consider myself having a "Southern" accent. I've lived in many different states as I was growing up. Just to name a few: Iowa, Connecticut, Florida, California & Louisiana. Growing up as a military brat, you can understand the reason for all the moving.

i don't find that people from louisiana have a southern drawl.you get that a little more in places like texas, alabama,and arkanasas. i can't really explain what our accent is like. some people from here have a sort of "cajun" accent-i don't. anyway, it's very interesting to me get to know different people from so many different places.

You're grumbling when it snows??? You need to live here in England my friend. Down in the south west of England, where I live, we never get snow. The last time it snowed and settled down here was in 1994. It's always overcast and drizzley down here. I'd love it to snow and the schools shut. All we get is floods, and they're always up in the north.
