Deepak Chopra's "MYMAG" Features Previously Unpublished Content From Jackie O., George Harrison & Michael Jackson
NEW YORK, NY--(August 23, 2010) - Deepak Chopra's MYMAG, his first magazine, is now shipping and is available via www.MYMAG.com. A world-renowned authority in the field of spirituality, well-being and mind-body medicine, Chopra, through his MYMAG, has provided a penetrating look into his life, insights and inspirations, along with never-before-published correspondence and other material from Jackie Onassis, George Harrison and other notable figures. Chopra's MYMAG comprises both a glossy print magazine and an interactive online experience with exclusive video and commentary; proceeds from sales will go to the Chopra Foundation and the 7Bar Foundation.
MYMAG is a personalized media platform that enables noted tastemakers and influential personalities to establish a more personal connection with their biggest fans. Chopra's issue mixes original content with archived and topical articles, chosen by Chopra himself, from Wax Poetics, the Guardian and other publications. In addition, Chopra has included previously unreleased letters from Onassis; photographs and correspondence from Michael Jackson; and songs, letters and pictures from George Harrison.
MYMAG is available both online and through select non-traditional retail outlets. To purchase a limited-edition issue of the magazine, readers can log on to MYMAG.com, browse the list of celebrities, then preview and select an issue, which will arrive via standard mail. In addition to Chopra, MYMAGs are available for actress Olivia Munn, movie director Brett Ratner and DJ/record producer Steve Aoki.
For publishers, MYMAG provides an opportunity to share their content with a much broader audience -- a chance to increase their readership even in a fractured media environment.

Here are two video promo's by Deepak where he shows several pages of the 1st magazine.
He reads part of the lyrics from "Rising Sun" and says the picture with George is at George's Hawaii home.
He also talks about his friendship with Michael Jackson and the poem they wrote together - Planet Earth from Dancing The Dream - and you can hear MJ's voice in the background reading the poem. Also some pictures of MJ and Deepak together.

I am not sure, it may be a one-off? Not 100% sure? For some reason I got the impression it was a one time deal, this Deepak mag?
I don't think he co-wrote the poem with MJ. He claims he did, but I think he more was there at it's inception, and they shared ideas maybe. I believe MJ fully was the author behind that poem though. The only place I have seen it referenced that Deepak co-authored it was from Deepak himself, lol.

You as MJ fan will know how quite some fans have bad feelings about Deepak so often mentioning Michael since last year and if you listen to the promo, Deepak is a big fan of himself and likes to show how many famous people he has met. I like Deepak's readings but things like this promo video and some other things where he talks about his meetings, nah, better not do that that way.

What I do like is that he is rather quiet about George. He has written about his meetings with George and some trips they made like to Hawaii and to Holland to see Marahesh Yogi yet what I have seen from that is pretty random and not too private.

Deepak is not always popular on MJ forums, you're right. I have even mildly defended him at times.. his books are so nice, and I like to think he has a good heart. Still, some things I just cannot really place. This new claim is one of those where I must think "hmmmm."
I've never in all my readings on MJ seen one mention of Planet Earth having a co-author.

Completly disagree with this take on Deepak..
Deepak has MANY celebrity clients and friends, and doesnt speak about them all that often..and infact when he does its largely to encourage peoples intrest in spiritual growth and self realisation, something i think bothe George and MJ would have been fully supportive of...
Deepak and his son were part of Michael's inner circle and it sonly since Michaels passing that Deepak has really shared much, he has always been very private when it comes to both George and MJ in particular..i guess he felt there was so much confusion and misunderstanding of MJ he was going to do what he could to clear some of that up..i still think Deepak's words after Michaels sad passing were the most accurate and he had a deep spiritual understanding and relationship with him..he is also probably one of the only Dr's that actually tried to help him, and said no to him, which caused some tension in their relationship. But such was their relationship that Micheal would cool off after a few weeks and call Deepak back up as if it had never happened..they were that close...Such things, and disclosures may prove to be unpopular with fans, but there you go..
As for the co write, id say he would have had a big influence and must of had some say..Michael has often had co writers and alot have been uncredited, This is it etc even, was the paul anka one wasnt it?
And as for Rising Sun, while not a co write (and Deepaks never claimed that), its clear he was a big influence on that aswell, just the whole philosophy is from him..
Having seen Deepak speak and getting to meet him i can say i truly feel he's 100% genuine and bone fide..
If this magzine encourages a few people to look into spirituality because of the lure of celebrity, that is a good thing, especially compared to all the celebrity junk in the magazines nowdays..Deepak is just keeping with the times and using what popular culture uses to get his message thru..And the lyrics of Rising Sun etc would have required approval from the Harrisons , so i think Olivia must approve :) And for us fans of Georges spirituality and "Private/90's George" this a rare treat indeed :)

I wonder what you mean with 'this take on Deepak'.
No one says he claims a co-write on Rising Sun and as for this MJ thing, well I really do not care, he says he co-wrote it and if some book does not mention him, what's the value of that? It's the same with Beatles songs where for instance George said in some interviews how he had added some lyrics to songe like In My Life or added a music score to We Can Work It Out yet has no co-writing addition. It happens all the time
The only thing I was somewhat surprised about is the commercial way he presents the magazine. It's not like I usually seem him talk or write. That's all.
I get a sort of newsletter from Deepak almost every day and it often has good value.

No one ever suggested he co wrote Rising Sun, i never said that...BUT its obvious how much he influenced it..that is made even more obvious by George's handwritten note...the content itself, is almost all Deepak with a kinda George autobiograpical slant as with the MJ poem..
By the way, he is PROMOTING a product here..if somebody just saw George in a Genesis books press conference or plugging a Wilburys CD, and thats all they'd seen..they would get a very different perception of George aswell..
There are lots of Videos and interviews with Deepak online you can watch or buy his DVD's, or go see him in person, then you will get a good feel for how he speaks and conducts himself..

Like CWW said already, doing promo stuff is different from your day to day work. Well, you know that already, Rob. Next to that page with George's small personal note to Deepak is a beautiful 'article' where Deepak refers to his times with George and adds a poem by Rabindranath Tagore, 1913 which Deepak shared with George at Friar Park.
I know the day will come
When my sight of this world shall be lost
Life will take its leave in silence
Drawing the last curtain before my eyes
Yet stars will shine at night
And mornings rise as before
And hours will still heave like sea waves
Casting up pleasures and pains
When I think of this end of my moments
The barrier of the moment breaks
And I see by the light of death
Your world with its careless treasures
Rare is its meanest of lives
Rare is its lowest seat
Things that I longed for in vain
And things that I got let- them pass
Let me but truly possess
The things that I ever spurned and overlooked.
In Deepak's book "Ageless Body Timeless Mind, George contributed and sang the lyrics to the audio version.
Deepak says "This collaboration is one of the most valuable experiences in my life".

Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful poem... Tagore heavily influenced Michael. Michael was going to set Tagore to music. That was a major project he was working on, and was reading Tagore the last months of his life every day.
As for George, the singing and lyrics were "Save the World" I believe... he let Deepak use the song. George didn't compose or sing anything 'new' for Deepak's audio.

I couldn't disagree more. I'm sorry, CWW. But this is untrue. The reason fans do not like it is that Deepak made MJ sound like an addict, when he was not. Deepak assumed MJ had been abusing drugs at the time of his passing, and he was not. Not one thing was found in his system to indicate he abused drugs. Not one thing was found in his house to indicate that he did either. Pill bottles, etc, most were unused or used once or twice, as people do when trying to find correct meds for lupus and depression... both conditions he had.
Deepak came forward before a single determination was made and said to the world "my friend Michael Jackson was a drug addict." Since, we have reports they were not all THAT close. Michael used to phone Deepak, but it is not like there are tons of recent pics of them. Most pics are from long ago. An occassional phone call does not necessarily a close friend make. Michael's real friends were people like Elizabeth Taylor who would never speak out against his character.
People extrapolated about MJ in sensational ways. The poor man got a spider bite. He was seen for it and given meds... pain management meds... which were strong. A friend went to see him and said Michael was playing on the floor the next day with his kids, in so much pain he was sweating. He refused to take the pain meds. The friend asked "why?" and MJ said he did not wish to be "altered" in front of his family. He said he used meditation to combat the pain when it became overwhelming. This is not the character Deepak illustrated. Fans who know MJ resent it. The press of course got ahold of a picture of the spider bite area and said, "oh, it is injection marks." Pure crap.
I am sure Michael was inspired by Deepak's books. I have several on my own shelf. Deepak is thought provoking. That is a gift he has been given by God. Do I think he is a great speaker and writer? Yes. Inspirational? Yes. A great friend? Not so much.

The situation with Paul Anka not being credited... well, that is hardly MJ's doing because he had passed on when it was released. He could not say, "I also wrote that with Paul Anka." :( Michael was impish (like alledgedly stealing the tapes away) :laugh5:, but he would have given credit where credit was due. He always named co-writers on songs he collaborated on. Michael was inherently gracious. So I do not believe Deepak has co-writen Planet Earth. Maybe I am wrong, and if I hear an MJ interview I somehow have missed where he says this, then I will happily stand corrected. But as for now, I remain stubborn on this point.

No im not saying it was Michaels fault about Paul Anka..but nor would it have been it he was alive either..The publishing and crediting is all down to the record company people and publishers anyway and not the artist.. And we know what record compnaies and publishers can be like. It is very political..sometimes an artist can throw their weight around and force crrediting situations, but usually they will be pressured not to. If another artist not signed to that label or publishing company is credited, the record company and publishers loose money having to pay them. It happens all the time. Michael may not have even be aware of it, if this was even the case... He does strike me as a perfectinost and musical genius and he loved the art and creative process..THE MUSIC..i dont think he particularly liked business or accountants and record co people, and all the terrible business and backroom deals and details that go on.. (again like George)
Even the Beatles did it, Mal Evans wrote large chunks of fixing a hole (probably much more than lennon even did) and was never credited, but simply paid a lump some..i think he was offered credit or the money and he took it..
As for Deepak i do hold him in very high esteem..i dont think he had a big ego or is a big fan of himself at all.. Nor do i think if he was, people like George Harrison (who hated people like that) or Michael Jackson would be so attracted to him. When i saw Deepak he was hosting an expensive party where only "VIPS" were meeting him..i went along and mingled with him. He then went straight onstage to speak afterwards and spent his break in the intermission signing books and meeting all the 'normal ticketholders' or people in the cheapseats, then went back onstage for another hour, then again after the talk was back signing for everyone and was still there at 11.30 when i left..at most "VIP" events like this this would never happen..you either pay alot of money to meet the person or you dont..but Deepak was all class, he signed for anybody and everybody.. what i am saying is he didnt care if you were a "VIP" who had paid hundreds of dollars to see him or someone that just walked in off the street with an old beatup paperback.. and he signed everything "Love Deepak". One on one, he was a very humble and gracious man. One of the great meetings of my life.
As for Michael, i do believe he was a good friend to MJ, of all the comments he has made after Michaels death, and those of Gotham i think they paint Michael in a very positive light, althought showing and explaining some of his frailties, he really shows how the media distorted things and treated him so unkind. I really think he has good intentions here. In a way he made him him seem HUMAN rather than the "God" or Superstar he had become..And personally i found this alot more endearing..For the first time (perhaps to some), Michael was seen to be a person.. He also showed how deeply spiritual and compassionate Michael Jackson was - and alot of people dont know how deep and spiritual he was AT ALL, so this has got to be a good thing :)

When speaking after Michael's passing, Deepak touched on some of Michael's spiritual readings which I had not known about before. I was grateful he shared those things. I have no issues with that.
However, friends do not publically take down another friend's character. To me, and to many MJ fans, this is not great friendship.
And sorry, I do not subscribe to the fact that MJ did not know who was credited with him on songs and his own BOOK. He was involved in each detail of his work. The Beatles cannot be compared- George often admitted to not remembering which song he played certain parts on. The Beatles were much less formal in how they did things.
