The only thing is that you'll have to agree to accept promotional emails from the company, otherwise you'll have to pay registration fees. But so what if you get a free .com name???

I have trouble believing this one. Harb, I'm sure you have to pay eventually.

Yeah, like Gloria Estafan said, eventually, the rhythm IS going to get you.

I think, after the fisrt year you'll have to pay - by which time they'll have the name you want, all to themselves.

Tim's right. After the first year, you can either change to paying, or agree to continue getting promo emails.

THERE AIN'T NO CATCH!!!

LenMc,
You can even still just use (temporaily or not as you wish) the domain as a pointer for Angelfire,Tripod, etc.
What I'm doing for now with both timbrent.com and timbrent.net.

Look, even if it is $35 a year - you guys should all have your own real domain name. It will upgrade your site completely, and show others that you're serious about it. And no annoying pop-up banners or free advertising for them on your home page.

I've got http://www.paulisdead.net

Colin mate, it's a URL redirection name. You select URL redirection in the setup page, and everytime they type in www.lennon-mccartney.org (http://www.lennon-mccartney.org) or whatever you decide to get, it sends it to http://www.angelfire.com/stars/LennonMcCartney which then loads up your site. I would never sign up for something that I would have to pay for. After reading the small print several times. I decided to do it because it's free. All you have to do is get spam sent into your mail box. You don't have to read them. You can delete them if you like.

or you could get a yahoo account and have it sent to that e-mail account and forget about it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I am thinking of signing up for this. I've moved my page so many times though. It would be too complicated to move it again and to tell people of the site change.

Have gotten 25MB free through aboveworld.com.
Have transferred Advertisements there(however,Jerry et al,am keeping the Tripos site up-always a good idea to haave 1 or 2 mirrors).
Working on other sites.
<Note--they do put a footer on stating hosted by Above World, but I can live with it more than Tripod's pop-ups or GeoAdSquare>

Here's something else that I think everyone will be interested in...

You can get free email service for your webpage. My new email account is in (user)@paulisdead.zzn.com

LenMc could have (user)@LennonMcCartney.zzn.com

And so forth.

You can get it at http://www.zzn.com

For the domainzero, it says that you must have your browser set to "cookies". How do you do that? My browser prefers cake. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

A cookie is when your computer saves a small file in your computer so that it can recall information when that page is viewed again. This is why after you enter your username once into Beatlelinks and submit a message, the next time you put in a message it fills that part in automatically.

Are you building a site Penny?

I know I sound like a broken record, but I still think you should all just get your own real domain names and then pay a monthly fee for a server to host the site. It's really not that much. And don't worry about room. All of BeatleLinks.net, including the forums, is only $30/month. And I'm pretty sure we're not even close to the limit yet.

Jerry, if I changed my domain name, would that have any effect on any of my links at certain places, i.e. at beatlelinks, yahoo, excite, even my little icon here?
I mean, say if I got my domain name, and then someobdy clicked a link with my old address--what would happen?

You'll still get there. You can get a .com URL redirection, which is just another domain name to go alongside your old one.

When Jerry is unavailable,Harbridge is Jerry.LenMac(Or MacLen as case may be)You can use your name as a redirection or be a masochist like me and build your own site(http://www.timbrent.net). Basically, what I'm doing for now is mirroring my current sites(always good in case of server failure).
