View Full Version : What do you do to de-stress?

So we all have those moments...where we want to just cry or put a fist through a wall. I am trying to think of some constructive ways of dealing with stress, since right now my main mechanism is yelling at my hubby, or taking a walk with my Ipod on which I can't always do with an infant. Hubs tells me I have to come up with some more adult ways of destressing, and I suppose this time he may be right. :) So what do you do to relieve stress?

Music does help me, there are certain artists that I play and I feel myself instantly relax, I think a walk is great too, sometimes a drive in the car, I love to go somewhere quiet, where there are lots of birds singing away, they sound so happy! I think it's great sometimes to just start up a conversation with a stranger, I particularly enjoy talking with older and many times wiser people who have been there and done that, ever notice how older people are less stressed?

Yeah, older people rock. :thumbu2: I love talking to older people, too. Those all sounds like wonderful ways to destress!

I walk, too. Treadmills are great because you can walk any hour and any weather. Also I clean fastidiously to loud music. :smile1:

Bookstores are great. I browse and get lost in ideas other than things which are stressful. Blogging helps me, too. I can get totally lost in that!

Does your baby enjoy walks? Jogging strollers can be handy at that age, if your baby would enjoy it?

Heavy, aggresive music like AC/DC, The Who, Megadeth etc can also be a good, safe way to destress if your feeling angry about something..well those are my personal favourites..oh and Punk! lol

Then there is also Meditation..the best of both extremes!!

lol I also clean... usually to the sound of Beatles blasting in the background!
I also run a lot, or call someone up to vent.
Also, the past few weeks I have been particularly stressed and I started weeding - surprisingly SO RELAXING. You'd be hard pressed to find a weed in our yard now, and I feel much better to have something mindless to keep me busy. :smile1:

Oh, also I pet my cat while he's curled up on my lap... nothing like stroking a purring kitty. :smile1:

Love doing this....I have two kitties and my boy kitty purrs so loud that the vet can never find a heartbeat over his purr. :)

I usually put in a movie and let myself get into it. Pretty soon I'm so into the movie I've forgotten what was stressing me out. These past few weeks I've been watching a lot of movies.

I love to get out into the yard and weed, clipping spent flowers, just playing in the dirt is great, your outdoors too....

I like to walk my dog, it relaxes us both, I like to curl up on the couch with a dog napping next to me and just lay my hand on their fur while they sleep, dogs are so trusting and loyal....

Getting on BLinks has always been great at de-stressing me too...

I am always humbled when I read the newspaper or see the news, my problems don't seem so bad....
