Elswhere on this forum there has been some discussion regarding US Beatlefests.

As you all probably know, Beatles Ireland (the club I am chairperson of) run Beatlemania in Dublin each November, this year is our 3rd, we have a good sponsor (all will be revealed in due course) and I wondered if all you good folks would give me ideas as to what YOU would want from a Beatles festival.

Dont worry that your suggestion is silly/obvious/unworkable, all I am trying to do is pick your brains. So what do YOU want?

Well Pat, I would personally want lots of cool beatles stuff I could buy! Shirts, hard to find records, etc. I think a lot of people just enjoy walking around and looking at things, I know I do! Maybe you could have a feature mini-concert with a takeoff band of the beatles. (A good one...no icky bands!) Also, you could have beatle look-alike contests. You could also encourage people to dress up as their favorite beatle? I know it sounds silly, but it certainly would be amusing! I just don't know, and I'm sure that you have already thought of most of those ideas. I thought that I would just contribute my ideas anyway.

the market to buy stuff is good, and the battle of the Beatle bands is also good. Each band gets one song. they all use the same amps and drums. they just bring their guitars and cords.

A Beatles market place to pick up out-of-print records would be good. Another idea is to hold a Beatles Auction. You'd be surprised how fast the bidding can go. A sound-alike contest, a trivia contest and videos, promos and movies wouldn't hurt either.

Here are a couple of ideas...

-A Beatles quiz, with prizes.
-A Beatles museum. See if anyone would be willing to show off their rare and expensive Beatle items / records.
-See if you can get someone to visit who had a close connection with the Beatles.
-Get a Beatle to visit.
-A Beatles tribute band is a good idea. Get people to dress up like they did in the sixties and see if you can book out a small hall and dress it up like the Cavern.

I'll have a better think tonight.

I visit our yearly Beatles Convention and what I experience is most popular is

A quiz (as said above) with deep trivia questions for the well-known, not the average stuff

A market where people bring stuff to sell or trade. Like bootlegs, singles/EP's/LP's, photo's, books etc. We see people digging for what they come for. Some even bring shopping-lists.

An auction. As said above, it is surspising to see the bidding for some articles, like old LP's or even sleeves only.

Movies to watch.

Beatles related guests.

A Tribute band.

Good Luck

How about something on the cheaper side for us old softie parents to take home to the kiddies who aren't necessarily impressed with the value of a Beatle collectable?

Like Beatle coloring books, notepaper, pencils, stickers, something not valuable but disposable where the kids can show their "fanness" to their peers?

You are all so imaginative, I love the 'swop and sell' idea.

Just so you know, what we have so far is:

4 of the best tribute bands in the UK. One each for John, Paul & George and on Beatles.
3 Irish bands who are not tribute bands, but are to play Beatle stuff for the weekend.
2 Beatle guests, First one is an original Beatles Fan Club secretary (Liverpool) Second
one is our friend that I spoke of before, who took the famous photo of John & the Quarrymen.
A bed-in, with a Lennon look-a-like in the bed!
A Beatles Antiques Roadshow, with experts valueing memorabilia, records etc.
Beatles Film Festival.
Would you come to a festival with the above line-up? I will probably include some of the ideas you guys have given me, thanks a million folks.

If I could make it, I'd go, but we don't know how long this ruddy fuel shortage will go on for.

I was wondering, what's the name of the secretary? It isn't Anne Collingham is it?

Will you be getting someone to sing our song, 'Lennon'?

Here's the lyrics, with the chords underneath. The MIDI for it is on my MIDI page which is at http://mikemidi.aboveme.com . The username to use is Lennon, and the password is Hamster. You'll get the rest of the music from the MIDi if you have a program that can translate MIDI into notation. If not, just tell me, and I'll send you something that'll help.

Lennon
------

With your hair slicked back and your leathers in black,
playing rock'n'roll just like a heart attack,
You acted so cool just like you just dont care,
You were a rock'n'roll rebel with your slicked back hair.
But we all knew the truth,
It's the wisdom that comes with youth,
Lennon, you were the worlds best friend.

Well you found a blood brother, and the music flowed,
with the rest of the band, you had our souls,
as the newspapers wrote of the kings of pop,
the madness around you could not stop,
And although you thought nothing of,
all the fame and love.
Lennon, you were the worlds best friend.

When things got rough and you found a new friend,
And everybody knew that this was the end,
We wanted to keep you amongst us here,
but how could we find you, you were nowhere near, nowhere near, nowhere near.

Well its many years later, and you are gone,
and all of your freinds really miss you John.
We know that you're mixing it with rock'n'roll stars,
Elvis and Buddy and you on guitar.
Your music's living on,
there can only be one......

Lennon, you were the worlds best friend.

Lennon, you were the worlds best friend.

Extra:

D/// Am/// D/// Am/// D/// Am/// D/// D/// E//D E//D E/// E///

Thanks Harb, and thanks to all of you, any UK people who might be interested, just contact Ray Johnson of Cavern City Tours in Liverpool, he will sort you out.

I really like the idea of cheapie merchandise, for kiddies, (adults too!) anyone know where I can get some?
And Beatlbaby? I care if you want to come, but you are a long way away, and so you will just have to have fun at the great US Beatlfests, and I wish I could come over there for that, but hey, that's life.
