Exactly. It should be something that you really like.
Funny thing is I felt a little weird about the recent merchandising of the Yellow Submarine reissue but I ended up with a ceramic cookie jar of the sub and it looks great in my kitchen.

If I could, I'd buy just about everything I could lay my hands on. I've been collecting things since they came to America.
The one prized possession I'd love to have is a Sgt. Pepper outfit. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

I have a question for you all, following my excursion to Liverpool, I noticed that there is quite a bit of memorabilia to be had, for example, the Yellow Submarine Blue Meanies figurines etc, they can be a little pricey and I wondered how you all feel about that. Is it an opportunity for us to collect? Or is it just marketing people ripping us all off? Let me have your thoughts people.

oh, i love collecting beatles, but there is so much out there, that you kinda have to pick and choose. like stick to theme, or like me, a little of everything, but whatever it is make sure it's something you really want.

You can still freely buy the 30th Auntvallery album freely in every music shop in north England. And that's at the regular price.

Some memorabilia I will not part with are my limited edition picture vinyls and colored vinyls. It's cool to watch Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road as the record spins round and round. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Out here in Holland it is not easy to get real vinyl anymore, but it is still out there. Me too, I will not sell or throw away all the vinyl I still have. The sound is sometimes even better than the CD's. Original is the better word.
Len-Mac, I visit the Virgin Store at Piccadily in London sometimes and it is amazing howmuch vinyl still is there.

If you want it,it is worth it.If not, then even at 1 cent it's overpriced.

Just remember that all of the memorabilia that was released back then was considered too expensive, but now the prices are going into the thousands.
Esp. look out for strictly limited edition items. The White Album 30th anniversary limited edition CD, in mint condition has already doubled it value!

I don't go to London much, it's about 200 miles away. It is good though, you can get pretty much anything you want there....beatlewise.

Pat,
Bascially on all memorabilia---
If you truly want it and love it,it will be worth it no matter the price. If you buy it just for completeness or to buy something,it is of no value.

I am with you all on the 'if you want it it's worth it' angle, but what I am getting at is do you think we are being used, ripped off, exploited by the merchandisers?
I dont mean albums, they are always worth having, what I mean is the constant stream of stuff, like the Yellow Submarine stuff, that we all go out and buy, I also felt a little uneasy when I saw the Yellow Sub stuff, which prompted my question.
BTW, Len-Mac is right, the White Album CD is freely available in both UK & Irish shops, which leads me to the conclusion that maybe US fans are more obsessive than European fans!! In the second hand Vinyl shops that I use in Dublin, practically all of the stuff available is from the US.

what, usa fans more obsessed??? oh, never! well, ok maybe just alittle.
i think the merchandisers, must think we are gullable, putting out so much stuff, thinking we'll buy everything, just because it's beatle related. there is way too much stuff out there, you would go broke, if you bought something everytime they came out with new stuff!
