Mine's Lennon - McCartney because my web-site is based on these two sisters of soul.
Also because they fascinate me, even whilst drinking tea.

Ummm, well, a whole year ago, when we left the dark ages of the Commodore 128 behind, I had to get my Mom (STOP LAUGHING, COL!!) to come show me how to get on the internet, and all that other stuff I kinda take for granted now. Anyhow, she insisted I needed ICQ, downloaded it, and asked me what nickname I wanted...I said, "Whaat? what's wrong with MY name?" Being a true mother, she said no way, and since I worked nights and have always been hard to wake up, assigned me the handle "SleepyHead"...and I've been sleepy ever since,...
And as Paul Harvey says, "And NOW you know the REST of the story!" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi.
I was just wondering about the significance of user names. Jerry's is self explainitory (I am guessing Jerry is his name.) But what about everyone else? I think I have explained mine before, but Penny Lane is my favorite song, and I am Penny Lane in a story my friend wrote. (Long, long, story.) Any one else have a story about how their user name came to be?

We've experienced a funny swap in the familial roles over the years...
In university, I was the first of the family to learn programming...this was in the dark ages of Basic A, Fortran, Cobol, and Pascal. Just a year later, my sister acquired a Mac and we were off, me teaching Mom how to do simple programming, editing some of her work, simplifying some programs and making others do more complicated things. Boy, Mom took after the computer like a duck to water, and in no time flat every word out of her mouth was Greek to me! She passed me up like a freight train racing a skateboard, LOL!
We spent almost a month last year hollering at my mom for "Help!" everytime we wanted to do something like download or install a game. Then I found out about homepages, and was determined to have one...lo, and behold, Mom had no clue what I was talking about! All of a sudden, I was in uncharted territory again...and I don't feel anywhere so inferior now http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

When I applied for an aol address with jtal, they offered me that with 6 numbers following. The first 3 numbers after jtal (first initial and partial last name) were 909 and I thought, " Cool, One After The 909!" I eliminated the last 3 and they accepted.

Having always known that there was more than the short intro to "Let It Be" on the Lp,I was pleased to find the long version of 'Dig It'.Since I'm a male, that other bootleg song 'Mary Jane',could not do for me.SO I am DIGIT.

LenMc. Let's take the song title, Dig It'. This is how it becomes digit...
It is rare for people to use capital letters in a username (I use one because it's second nature as it's my surname) becausr it's just easier.
Spaces are either not allowed in usernames or are just too irritating to use, so not many people use them. Look in this forum. I don't think there's a single person with a space in their user name. A dash maybe, but no space.
So, using these guidelines, 'Dig It' becomes 'digit'.
Get out of that one LenMc. Ha, you can't can you? I win again!

Very creative len-mac. Penny for your info. it's pronounced "mars" as in the candy bar or the planet. And Penguin, that was really funny! I got a laugh out of that one.
As for Digit, I'm going to have to agree with len-mac and penny, I too thought it was a finger! But then again, I'm not the Beatle buffs you all are, so I don't even know that song. You learn something new everyday.

Don't worry Digit. I knew that you were named after a Beatles song on the Let It Be album.

PennyLane
Jul 30, 2000, 05:00 PM
As you all know, I used a song for my user name too. I use caps, so it is PennyLane. I could have used pennylane and it would be understood, as pennylane is not a real word, and we all know it solely as a song. However, 'digit' is a word, and so it can only be concluded that if he had meant the song, he would have used a capital, space, dash, or other such mark of puncuation. Because he did not, LenMc and I only came to the obvious conclusion that the user name was intended as the word, not the song title.

I surely did not realise my user name would mean different things to different people. As some have figured, the name is taken from the short intro from "Let It Be',not a number or single limb or anything like that, just a simple song title or part of one.If I may change it forevermore to DIG IT,it will be understood by more people.Thank You.

I'm 'Hey Beatle' cause in help Clang says " Hey Beatle" when calling after Paul if my memory serves me. And for some reason that always struck me as really funny. And from the first time I saw it on I would almost always say ' Hey Beatle'quietly anytime it was brought up. That and "It's a cold place" everytime it's cold and " they all look alike in their similitude and language" ...for the heck of it.. but those two weren't as appealing for screen names.

I had a teacher at school called Miss Winters. Despite her name, I didn't like her very much.

I know I hopped on board this train kinda late, but I'm mighty glad I did because I got to know some of you regulars better.
As for my name, I think it is a very telling statement. I added 1964 because 1964 is the Year of the Beatles.

"Strawberry Fields Forever" is my favorite song, and I'm also a science fiction/fantasy writer in my spare time (when I'm not on the Internet, that is!) I write Beatles SF fanfic, and I'm also in the middle of a fantasy trilogy which I hope to sell someday. Abbreviating the song title the way I do allows me to combine two interests in one nickname.
