Long time George friend Gary Wright will release an album which has two songs on it which are George related and also has Ringo on it.

Anchored by a lifetime of songcraft and production know-how, synthesizer-pioneer Gary Wright will release CONNECTED on June 8th, his first pop-rock album in over 20 years. This bold new album is an inspirational journey that instills Wright’s self-realized world-unifying vision with the magical transcendence of his all-time classic hits “Dream Weaver” and “Love Is Alive” and a masterful reminder of Gary’s innate ability to forge a sublime musical connection with the inner human desire that engages one to move, to groove, to clap one’s hands and to sing along.

With musical gifts interlaced in uplifting joy, Wright wrapped it up with the album’s title, “I named the album Connected because I believe we are all connected with one another and that our thoughts and actions have a great influence on our planet collectively. We, therefore, all need to work together in making this world a better place by manifesting more hope and more positive thinking wherever we go as well as doing our parts in creating peace and spreading it wherever we see darkness.”

The mood heats up from the get go with the majestic first single “Satisfied,” featuring iconic legends RINGO STARR on drums and JOE WALSH on guitar. Replete with a deliciously funky keyboard riff amid life-affirming vocals, it’s an effervescent soul-enriching sojourn. “Satisfied” will be available as a digital single beginning May 18th. Future singles from CONNECTED include ‘Get Your Hands Up’ and ‘Gimme Some Time’ with Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter on guitar.

Two years in the making, Wright recalls the album’s genesis, “Right before I started the last Ringo All Starr tour in 2008 I began to write for what would be this new studio album. I wanted it to be in the same direction that my album The Dream Weaver was; not too over-produced. So I recorded a few tracks with my engineer Rob Calhoun, who was very helpful in running the technology part of the process and then I went on tour with Ringo. That September after the tour was over I went to Sardinia, Italy where I wrote more songs (on acoustic guitar) and returned home to finish writing and recording the album.”

Wright also spent time perusing his forty years of archives and unearthed several incredible nuggets. As a very special bonus to those who purchase the deluxe digital version of CONNECTED at iTunes and www.TheDreamWeaver.com, Gary is including two songs linked to his long-time friend GEORGE HARRISON, one is a moving ballad called “To Discover Yourself,” co-written by George Harrison in 1971 and recorded by Wright on the day of Harrison’s passing on November 29, 2001. The other song, recorded in 1989, is titled “Never Give Up” and features George Harrison on guitar. Separately, the hauntingly beautiful ‘The Way I Feel,’ a song Gary contributed to the soundtrack for the 1986 German film FIRE AND ICE will be included on the deluxe version of the album available exclusively at The Dream Weaver.com.

A wave of high-profile events will surround the release of CONNECTED beginning with an intimate record release show at The Mint in Los Angeles a few days after street date. Gary will then gear up for a 30-city national trek as a part of the ‘RINGO STARR and his ALL-STARR BAND’ tour from June 24th through August 7th. This fall, Wright will appear in Martin Scorcese’s GEORGE HARRISON biopic while ‘Dream Weaver’ will be prominently featured in a May 18th episode of the hit TV show GLEE and Disney’s TOY STORY 3 in 3-D. A new generation is set to have their hearts, minds and souls CONNECTED.

Gary's own comment

Right before I started the last Ringo All Starr tour in 2008 I began to write for what would be my next studio album. I wanted it to be in the same direction that my album "The Dream Weaver" was; not too over-produced. So I recorded a few tracks with my engineer Rob Calhoun, who was very helpful in running the technology part of the process and then I went on tour with Ringo.

That September after the tour was over I went to Sardinia, Italy where I wrote more songs (on acoustic guitar) and returned home to finish writing and recording the album over the next 18 months. I was personally very pleased with the results in both the songwriting and recording parts of the process. Ringo, Joe, Skunk and Will's performances added a great touch to the album as did Valerie and Lisa on the backing vocals.

So now I give it up to you and hope you will be uplifted by what you hear. I named the album Connected because I believe we are all connected with one another and that our thoughts and actions have a great influence on our planet collectively. We, therefore, all need to work together in making this world a better place by manifesting more hope and more positive thinking wherever we go as well as doing our parts in creating peace and spreading it wherever we see darkness
In light and peace,

It looks like the songs connected to George will only be available on the iTunes release of the record. I prefer to have music on CD but I think I'm going to have to make an exception and get this at iTunes. It's hard to pass up two "new" George songs.

Try it's impossible to pass up new (and any) George songs!

It's a shame, but to be honest I probably won't buy the Garry Wright album.
I only worry that they will put the songs that has George's involvement as album only downloads. I really want to hear those.

Thanks Rob for posting the info.

Then that makes at least two (and counting) less copies that Gary will sell of this album.

I'm always discouraged when I see that it's a "vintage" artist who'd releasing tracks via dowload only.

By "vintage", I meant artists who originally released the bulk of their material on CD, when not vinyl and who when still only fans themselves bought albums from THEIR idols on vinyl and CD.

And, in a case like this, it's even more telling ! With the storage capacity of a CD, why didn't he just include those songs on the album ?

The whole Download Only issue makes no sense. It's CDs not downloads that are struggling in today's music market! It would be a point to have CD only content so people must buy CDs but no need to specially promote downloads. All downloads aren't available everywhere anyway while you can order a CD from anywhere in the world. Besides, like several of you, I don't WANT download version! Add one more that won't be buying this album.

VERY good point !

I'd never thought of it quite that way...

Well, there you go, just one more reason to condemn this pratice...

... and one more "no buy" name on the list (LOL).

Maybe we should send that list to Gary ? (hahaha)

How about simply burning the downloaded tracks to CD and then you have the physical CD you want to have.

To me it's the same as people only buying stuff from the Amazon's of this world in stead of walking to a music store.

Not everyone owns a PC and/or a CD burner...

How about simply burning the downloaded tracks to CD and then you have the physical CD you want to have. From where? If you want to do it legally it's not always possible, believe me, I've tried! So you have two choices: Not buy the album at all or get an illegal copy. In either case the label doesn't make any money. Also, as discussed below, an Mp3 is not the same as a CD track. I can certainly hear the difference, particularly when played through a good sound system.

To me it's the same as people only buying stuff from the Amazon's of this world in stead of walking to a music store. I don't agree. Legal downloads are rarely better quality than a Mp3 320 kbit. Mp3 is a lossy data compression (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossy_data_compression), "a data encoding method which discards (loses) some of the data, in order to achieve its goal, with the result that decompressing the data yields content that is different from the original, though similar enough to be useful in some way." (Italics mine) So it's NOT the same, as the downloadable Mp3 tracks, if they can be found, differ from the quality of a CD. Besides, your example isn't that up to date, I'm afraid. In this day and age it's generally more difficult to find a record store to buy anything than it is to order from, say Amazon.

Back to the main topic. The one song posted on Links was nice although I'd loved to hear George sing it! :cool1:

The problem is "Never Give Up" isn't on iTunes. The way I read the statement it should be there instead of only on the version available through the site.
Got me confused, but now I just noticed it's only "To Discover Yourself" that's on iTunes. Still a good song, and you don't have to buy the whole album if you're not a big Gary Wright fan, if you just want the song.

For those who want the whole album with the other George related track,
"Never Give Up" you can download it as FLAC files through Gary's site.
It's every bit as good as the original cd.
